I think it would be a good idea if any item could be made faction by applying an aurum bought fitting to the top slot that stands alone currently, perhaps a faction chip slot. This would reduce market clutter from all the various "different color but the same" items as well as encourage people to use them more liberally, since it can be used with any fit.
Special faction items could still be released but now they can actually get more attention and character. Such items could be a nexus chip upgrade (which could be an AUR item but also needs to be in-game achievable, perhaps a random drop from PVE content).
If you want to be lore-strict about it, you could restrict certain suit/faction combinations. Nexus chips would be designed for only one suit in the first place so the mechanic could be the same. Weapons can still be done as scripts, so each faction would share some functional character (since they would have the same underlying script to become faction).
Lots of fun ideas possible here, but the basic part is reduce all the duplication in the market to an AUR section where we can pick an addon for any fit. This increases the likelihood it would be used in addition making it transparent at a glance these are not pay-to-win effects. |

AUR purchased modules currently fill the same gap that faction mods do in EVE; They're good, and sometimes they're really worth having, but often they're not, unless you know you're not going to die often.
To really fill that gap though, I think CCP needs to really open up the ability for players to AUR trade. Let players trade in redeemed AUR for AUR tokens and allow those tokens to be traded on the market. Then they (and anything purchased with AUR) would become a traded commodity just like PLEX.
As long as the only AUR faucet is through CCP's coffers, then it doesn't make sense to not have AUR as liquid is possible; I should be able to buy AUR tokens with ISK, the same way that I can buy PLEX. I should also be able to take my redeemed AUR and exchange it for AUR tokens which I can sell for ISK.
Make it easier for the players to obtain AUR without requiring every player to dip into their wallet, and make sure that AUR mods only offer a small advantage, or, better yet, simply a convenience. Do that CCP, and you'll make a mint off of AUR sales... and, because of the liquidity of AUR, it'll be viewed under the same light as PLEX-trading.
CCP was obviously trying for a "first one's free" approach to the Noble Exchange. If CCP were to open up AUR so that people can freely convert between AUR and AUR tokens (in denominations of 1000 AUR only), then that "first one's free" concept would actually work, because the AUR items in DUST are actually worth purchasing... unlike that ******* monocle =P |

They already stated AUR items will be tradeable so every person can acquire even paid content for free with the right amount of ISK. The number one AUR sink could also be employed by making every fit capable of applying a color scheme - corp customization. I think using the system from dawn of war for "paint" would make the system simple yet deeply customizable.
I say let AUR items retain their place as faction items. If certain chips also carry the bonuses, such as reduced SP requirements, that streamlines the market. The only downside I see is the AUR items would not be side by side the ISK items for the temptation. To correct this, I would simply add a layer to the buy process asking if you wish to purchase an equal amount of a list of items that are compatible.
Please continue to bring thoughts, comments and concerns. I want to see the customization in the players' hands as well as a cleaner market. "Chips" for vehicles and suits and "scripts" for weapons would go a long way towards trimming it down without losing any of the depth. |

I like this idea. It's a good aur sink and it lets people customize everything to their liking while keeping the market clutter to a minimum. It's a win-win situation. |

Still trying to push this solution to the market clutter and allow future customization. Any more ideas, questions, concerns? |
