I had a friend from overseas tell me that I should download a game called Dust 514 and that it was free. So I thought hey, free game, amirite?
So I downloaded this game and watched the little movie intro and thought hey this game seems like its really neat! I'm accustomed to Battlefield so I already know FPS mechanics and I was ultra impressed that you can change the controller settings to Battlefield because I was going to do that anyway since that's what I am used too.
So I started playing and it took me a few minutes to figure out what to do and I couldn't figure out what "warbarge" was? It only had one circle you could click on and press upgrade and I upgraded it and it said something but I don't remember what it said...but that's irrelevant.
I finally got into a game lobby but it only lasted for a few seconds and I saw a bunch of guys standing around and a female voice say something about upgrade something today but then there was the map and I was shocked at how HUGE the map was!!
So after a few minutes it said all players must deploy or something and I clicked on a blue circle and it put me in the game but I didn't have a clue where to go but I followed a big blue A on the screen! It took me a few tries to get used to playing and I got killed a lot but I eventually got the hang of it!
So on like my 7th match or so, I started getting some kills and put up a 24/8 on the scoreboard and had 4-5 more matches along those lines, most kills I got in one match was 27 and most times I died was 11
So I was having a lot of fun and I played another match because I was addicted! But I got into a match and its like I was in a whole different game....what gives?
I went 4/18 and there was a player called BlackStreetHeart in a fat character with a gun that sounded like an angry hornet that killed me less than a second!
I thought well they can't all be winners so I played another match and there was another player called Thought You Had Me that was flying around in some kind of helicopter or airplane and killing everyone from the air!
I went 3/13 that match! I was getting frustrated and then on my last match of the night there was this player named Michael Epic who kept killing me without doing anything. Is that a hack? Is that a glitch? I'd get near this guy and I'd just die for no reason at all! He wasn't even shooting me!
So I played the first 10 matches or so and got used to the game and it was okay and I did okay and then maybe the last 5-6 matches I played I was getting slaughtered and annihilated! What changed!?
Is this game buggy? I'm thinking of deleting it because its like the whole thing just bugged out on me! |

You probably graduated from the academy and was thrust into the wolves.
Though seeing as you are in a corp, im slightly skeptical of newness, or if you are just bringing satire of how new players "graduate" from the academy and then get into a real match where your war buddy in the MCC asks you how you want the other team to have their way with your body. |

I hate to be the one who says this, but its not going to get better for a long time.
When you started, you were in "academy". an area reserved for new players. As you got better and stacked points, you got put into "general battle" which is full of vets in a squad. They can tell you are new, and they know you are an easy kill because of it, so they actually try to hunt you.
SP, as you gain it over a long time, allows you to add passive bonuses to your suits and weapons. (extra shields, damage, armor, scanning, hiding, ect). Thats why it seems like your gun does nothing but theirs kills in in 2 seconds. They used 100,000ISK suits that a militia suit cant touch.
If you want to stick around, i suggest trying out the militia plasma cannon. Difficult to use, but one of the only guns available to you with the firepower to take down a vet player.
People will tell you to get in squads, but all that does is teach you how to have 6vs1 fights. It will make the game easier, but you wont grow as much as a player. |

Agree with Xocoyol, but I'll bite anyway, maybe some noob lurker will find this helpful.
The warbarge is a new feature to Dust. It's meant to be a long term, passive generator of ISK, items, and in-game bonuses. The circles are different "subsystems" that give you your stuff and to get them you need to upgrade you warbarge. To upgrade, you need to aquire components through the warbarge factory (the first bubble you get, level that up ASAP), through salvage/strong boxes, or bought for AUR (don't recommend). The best way to go about it is level your factory up has high as you can and collect it everyday.
As for matches, new players start out in Academy for a limited time then you join everyone else in public matches. Academy is a lot easier because everyone is low level and usually has no idea about the game, public matches have even the highest SP vets. I suggest using your favorite standard or militia suit with a repair tool and following around a heavy (the guys in the fat suits) to heal him and get more war points. Try and stick close to other teammates and try to get a feel to the flow of battles and the map layouts.
Also, consider joining a corporation, they'll usually help out with any questions and are great company in battle.
Yes this game has a steep learning curve and it buggy and a whole bunch of other problems, but I love it and it's one of the best games I've ever played. Hope you enjoy it.

veterans like to make new player accounts to post commentary on how god-aweful the New Player Tutorial is.
Your original post reeked of it as most new players don't actually give such an odd "Blow-by-blow" description of their "new experience" especially when it focuses on "traditional" topics. If I was home I'd look you up on the leaderboards and actually check how many games you've actually played and see if it matches up.
My main issue is that you allegedly played Battlefield and are accustomed to FPSes but were somehow lost upon encountering the "Giant Blue A" and refuse point blank to use common terminology in FPSes.
The "Giant Blue A" is god damn ubiquitous in most every FPS anymore as an "Objective."
People say "Spawn" not "put me in the game"
Any numbskull can recognize a minigun when they see one even when they don't play video games (And you play Battlefield) and don't need to use several sentences to describe game mechanics common in FPSes, though the "fat man" description was appropriate for a new player.
You come off as someone who is completely new to FPSes entirely, due to the ridiculous "newbie" way you string your sentences together, not as a Vet from Battlefield, hence why my BS meter pegged out and broke my screen.
If you are actually a new player, I do apologize and recommend you go to the new player forum here: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=topics&f=899
But the OP reeks of Vet BS, though yes I agree that DUST 514 has a terrible new player intro. My Significant Other was completely clueless on FPSes, never played one in her life, and was not this clueless or cumbersome-with-descriptions as the OP is.
I just don't buy it.

I agree with the people in this thread...
You sound like you've been here before because otherwise you wouldn't try so hard to mask your terms and make them sound newbie like "Giant Blue A" as Xocoyol himself just said....
As for your post....I was killing you with remote explosives. IF you are truly a new player they function like C4 in Battlefield 4 does. If you played Battlefield I would assume you would be familiar with what happens when you're jollying along and then out of nowhere you're dead.
I use remote explosives (C4) mostly because almost everyone is a heavy (the fat character) with an HMG and they hidey hole it up and when you seek to contend with them, they kill you. My way of dealing with them it to throw my lovely discs of death their way and blow them up.
I don't understand the point of this thread, but I am happy to have butchered you in game last night.
You are definitely a veteran and have definitely played this game before....but, in case I am wrong (as others said) I apologize...I can be kind of an ass from time to time |

Also there's this thing called a killfeed as well as a deathscreen that explains why you died.
Every FPS I know of has this or a painful killcam that does the same or both.
It's pretty nice, next time when someone kills you, try to look an inch/cm to the right of their name and see what they killed you with, might cut down on surprises, kinda like your game Battlefield.

What did you waste your SP on? Are you considering sticking around? Are you willing to play as a component in a squad? Can you follow orders?
I ask this because you are in a rough spot. Getting out of it will take months on your own. We can streamline it to a few weeks if your willing to learn.
You should consider returning to the academy. I got guys who can take you in and help with the game. It's really up to you. Figuring out everything on your own is a nightmare. The experience can be frustrating.

When you start the game, you are placed in the Academy.
It is a game mode for new players that have less than X War Points (WP). I can't remember what the max is at the moment.
After a few games, you acquired enough WP that you "Graduated" from the academy.
Then you were thrown in to the general population. It is at that point you started to have problems. That fat suit, a Heavy Sentinel, was wielding an HMG.
As a new player, you probably have, if you are lucky 1 million Skill Points. Of those that have been around for years, some have upwards of 50 and 60 million SP. I have taken numerous breaks in my 2 + years, and even I have 31 million SP.
Since SP and all the benefits of it create a big disadvantage for you, that is why you are seeing what you are seeing with the games you are playing.
You have several options at this point:
1) Accept that you will naturally be at the bottom of the leaderboards as your slaying potential will naturally be less than that of players with more SP. It is not purely a matter of skill, though this game is very complex and does take some experience to know how to approach certain situations, like an HMG Sentinel (use REs).
2) Join a training corp. Some larger corps will have trainers and help bring up new players, while the best are corps involved with the Learning Coalition which is a group of corps whose sole purpose is the training and mentoring of new players. If you do choose No. 1, adding this to your itinerary will make it that much more fun and palatable to continue playing.
3) Take a break. Make sure your main is set up for passive SP (which should be the case if you have no alternate characters on the account) and come back to the game later. In the upcoming months, we expect game levels that will not allow the maximum gear into the match so that new players like you will have more of a shot at a level playing field. It will be much less frustrating of an experience. Also, when you do log back in, you will have some SP to use and if used wisely, make yourself a more viable adversary.
3a) If you take a break, I suggest occasionally visiting these forums. Visit the Rookie Training Grounds and read through any relevant advice. This game is complex and the forums can be a good source of information as to how things work. The in game information is perhaps as low as 1% of the information you really need to understand the game. And sometimes that 1% is confusing and not well presented.
4) Quit. I don't particularly recommend this as I think Dust is a unique experience and that if you give it a fair chance you might find something you like. The game has improved with time and there is still hope for further improvement. It doesn't have to be the only game you play, and can become a part of your game playing menu.
Best of Luck o7

You just can't be this clueless yet play Battlefield, you just can't.
How the hell can you read a guy's name enough to remember it YET not notice the Remote Explosives literally next to the guys name, nor in the killcard? Then again this is the same guy who did not read the ENORMOUS HUGE POPUP that explains what a Warbarge is but clicked around anyways.
How can you play BF and not recognize Remote Explosives as C4, or know what a Blue Glowing Letter in the middle of the map is?
The list goes on.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that you're using weaker gear and weapons than the other team when you get stomped. Take a look at your inventory and start crunching the numbers, because this is an RPG as much as it is a FPS.
