If you must, your two options are: - pass squad lead to someone else so they can drop the orbital for you - land, get out (opening menu while landed can cause your ship to explode or fall through thr map), call orbital, fly away. Basically you are a simple soldier on the battlefield however hovering high above in the atmosphere that you cannot see is a ship called a Warbarge. When get collect the requisite points and are squad leader you can call down the OB from anywhere on the battlefield. However don't try flying while you do this...... it won't work.
