A brokerage company pulling petty blatant scams is the equivalent to stealing the change from the "take a penny, leave a penny" when you could just buy the store and make money on volume.
In this market, the highest value thing one can offer is guaranteed trust and reliability. Sourcing product is not a big deal, all players get salvage. Counting on people to move it profitably and reliably, thats the marketable product that has to be created out of hard work.

both could go for a billion if not more.
Whats the likelyhood hood though of someone with something like that to sell just finding a random person in the chat to buy it and then at random asking for a middleman service? A trade of that caliber would have been arranged over time through various channels. Its not going to be a startup corporation that handles a trade like that. Its going to be a corp with a multi billion wallet who puts up a % of the cost up front and the rest upon delivery.
Scale it down a little and think from the bottom up instead of from the top down. You make ISK, like you said, by doing small trades and such. As you make profit, you develop a investment fund. And then, when you see someone looking to sell, trade, or buy a BPO, nevermind being the middleman, you have enough ISK or inventory to handle the transaction yourself.
Is there a chance that at the top of the scale, there will be a middleman entrusted with a billion ISK trade who burns both parties? Its very possible. But its not the kind of thing thats going to be happening every hour. I think its going to take more than 1-2 months of reputation for 2 random people to be like "Here, hold my rarest item in the game till he gives you my billion....."here, take my billion and hold it till he gives you the rarest item in the game". |

Dealer 01 wrote: The players that will join the corp to be the traders are only players that Freccia has 100% trust in. We cant let a person we dont know ruin our reputation scamming customers so that's why we are very strict with who we let in. Our traders will be players that Freccia has known for more than 2 years now.
I think thats going to be the biggest problem in this industry. When it comes to regular fighting corps, even they have problems with the accountant or director emptying the wallet and running.
All it takes is for one moment of greed from one employee, either during a trade sell or buy, and the company name is scrapped.

I wouldn't say only. There is room for competition, but not room for a monopoly. You should say "Your best chance of a good trade, is with someone from the Simple Trading Union. |

Let's just say I 100% trust the guys here. They are not people I randomly encountered and that wanted to join. I'm the CEO, just because I had the idea in the first place, otherwise it could be anyone of them. And it's the same, if they scam, they also lose money.
I dont doubt your diligence. The only reason im in this thread and channel is because i believe there is a reasonable chance ill be able to get some good business done with your company. If i felt you or your people were dishonest i wouldn't even bother.
I was just pointing out one of the biggest challenges of having a brokerage company is finding reliable personnel.
Joel II X wrote:Why would people even start things like these when we don't even know how the trading UI will even look like? I mean, what if it'll show what both parties offer and then they have to select a "Ready" option so that the trade goes through? This form of trading would eliminate scams and the need for middlemen.
I would hold off on anything trading related until it's released. We don't even know if it'll come 1.1, it might get delayed.
Just so were on the same page:

go to item in assets press X send item to Contact (not player) select qty send are you sure yes

Better ways to trade are obviously known. They either depend on both being on the server for handshake, send item claim in email, which requires major backend work, or auction houses which is a huge undertaking.
This simple method allows trading to happen, at all and I would rather spend a part of our resources on other features.

@joel : Yes, its early, but the idea is to get brand recognition out there fast so that once word of trading gets down the grapevine, and people have mulled over what they will want to sell/trade/buy, just having "oh yeah, I heard about those guys on the forums" could be enough to get them to reach out and there you go, business is rolling.
Its also good for research. As these threads pop up, people start to speculate on what they would be looking for, how much they would pay, what circumstances would justify the extra effort of using the player market as opposed to the NPC one, ect. That way, once and if it happens, youll see a more orderly rollout of companies and services who had planned and prepared for it. Instead of seeing the market surge in all kinds of directions, a fair amount of product will be spoken for by then, so youll see companies piling inventories theyve already anticipated, and players getting payments for goods they already planned for.
And if trading doesnt happen? Scrap the company and move on. Atleast people are trying to build up some meta and community. Join in! Are you a buyer or seller? |
