In a fit of terror Noah ripped himself from his dreams, or nightmares to be exact. The soldier tossed his feet out of bed and cradled his head in his arms as he sat on the side of the bed. Sweat and blood soaked his shirt and it took what little mental strength he had left to prevent a panic attack. As it was he could feel the blood rushing through his ears as his heart pounded against his ribs. The alarm on his neocom was quietly beeping, letting him know that his heart rate had exceeded 150. After several minutes of struggling his ragged breathing began to slow and his heart rate fell back into rhythm. Slowly Noah stood up, pain shooting through the left side of his torso. He had taken a bullet to the side. It was a clean wound, no major damage was done. Still he had refused medical treatment since he had boarded the Se'terra. He was a mess.
Gingerly he removed the soiled shirt, tossing it into a pile. He examined the dressing over his wound. It was soaked with blood. All the thrashing he was doing while sleeping must have reopened the wound. Noah grabbed a clean shirt and left the dark confines of his quarters.
Silently he walked through the halls, ignoring the crew members he passed along the way. His antisocial behavior had alienated him from the rest of the crew. Most of them had stopped even acknowledging him.
Quietly he slid into the medical bay. One of the workers offered to look at. His wound but Noah simply ignored her grabbing supplies as he made his way towards an empty bed. Tossing the supplies on the bed he moved in front of a mirror. His own reflection surprised him. What he was looking at was not a strong and powerful soldier, but a pale and frail looking man. He did not recognize his own reflection. He chalked up his appearance to a lack of sleep and loss of blood.
Carefully he pulled back the dressing to better inspect the wound. The stitches on his stomach had popped out. Thankfully the ones on his back remained intact. Quickly and a little carelessly he yanked the old sutures out reopening the wound. Quickly he sutured the wound closed. Every time he heard the tearing sound of a needle through his own flesh he winced in pain.
With the wound closed he cleaned himself up and applied new dressings to both sides. He slowly pulled his white shirt over his head and cleaned up his mess. Out of the corner of his eye he could see a few of the lab techs shaking their heads.
Over the last few days the only two places he had been were his quarters and the med ward. He had been spending most of his time fighting with his nightmares, and when he grew tired of struggling with his demons he would check up on Hy'salia. She was still sleeping but Noah had heard whispers throughout the ship about her condition. For some reason he felt responsible.
They said she had finally woken up, but when he arrived she was still sleeping. Quietly he sat down in the chair next to her bed. He leaned forward, elbows on thighs and hands clasped together. He stared intently at the floor, almost as if he stared hard enough he could wake up from this nightmare too.

Quote:"N-noah?? that you??"
Someone speaking his name shook him from his thoughts.
GÇ£Ah, dhedus arvumaa (little sparrow) you are awake.GÇ¥ The words he spoke were a mix of intaki and napanii, gentle but happy. Noah spoke without looking up from the floor. As he lifted his head up to look at HyGÇÖsalia his eyes were blank and unfocused, lacking recognition, a gentle smile on his face.
A moment later a wave of recognition moved across his face. His eyes sharpened and the smile on his face quickly fell.
GÇ£Heard a rumor you had woken up. Figured I would see for myself.GÇ¥ He did not bother to mention that he had been checking up on her for the last few days, or that he felt responsible for her injuries. Jester was slowly unraveling, turning into an emotional wreck. He kept telling himself it was because of the guilt he felt, but he knew that was not the case.
GÇ£From what I hear you put on quite the air show in that dropship.GÇ¥ His ever present grin returned to his face. He never saw what she had done, he was too busy running for his life hopping that those in the dropship provided a distraction long enough for him to get aboard the ship. Not that anyone else needed to know that.

Noah offered no indication that he saw the strain or pain that the simple action of laughing brought her. He firmly believed in aggressive treatment and rehabilitation for injuries. Often times much to the dismay of the professionals whose opinions he often ignored.
Quote:"yeah... that was *cough, cough* a good show huh? well, better paralyzed than dead i guess, at least i managed to save a few our of our bretheren."
Brethren? The word sounded strange to him, foreign. Jester had never once thought of the other immortal soldiers as his kin. It had been a long time since he had thought of anyone or group in that manner. As far as he was concerned the only thing they had in common was their ability to transfer their conscious to another body at the time of their death, and at the moment they didnGÇÖt even have that. JesterGÇÖs actions had already proven that he thought very little of his GÇ£brethrenGÇ¥ as HyGÇÖsalia had put it. Jester held true to his mercenary beliefs. Make as much isk as possible, honor your contracts, trust no one, and survive. The last one was his major focus at the moment, which he would have found humorous if he had the energy. In the past two years he could count on a single hand the number of times his life was actually at risk. When HyGÇÖsalia motioned for someone to help her up Jester didnGÇÖt bother to help. Between the crew members and other former immortals there were more than enough people willing to jump at the chance to help her. Besides given his current condition he was pretty sure he would need medical attention for reopening his wound if he helped her up. When Thal quickly appeared to assist her he simply nodded at the man and stood up slowly. Jester was starting to feel like his body was running through in slow motion. Like he was submerged in water with only his head above the water. His body was telling him to get some food, or at least fluids to replace the blood he had lost, and to go back to bed. Seeing as sleep was out of the question he decided food would be his next objective.
GÇ£YouGÇÖre all work and no play dhedus Ulwyaahda (little Hunter).GÇ¥ He spoke again in Intaki, it must have been the sleep deprivation and blood loss, he was still confused and was feeling a light headed. GÇ£Sorry. Its good to see you awake.GÇ¥ He hooked his thumbs in his pants pockets as he spoke. Jester wasnGÇÖt sure if he was apologizing for his language or her injury. GÇ£IGÇÖm going to find some food before I get geared up.GÇ¥ |
