I play exclusively with keyboard and mouse (my controller doesn't work properly)
I personally find cqc really difficult to do, but sniping and forge gunning is much easier.
I've not found any benefit to using the keyboard in cqc at all, and am considering buying a controller because of it. |

I wanted to try with my laptop a while back, using remote keyboard, but it was full of issues. Pressing 2 keys at once negated one or both of them, making movement, jumping and such completely worthless.
But I'm guessing that's an issue with remote keyboard.
Which makes this reply a little bit useless. But just in case anyone else was thinking of trying it. |

What's a remote keyboard? :s
I can jump and move pressing both buttons at the same time on my keyboard. My biggest issue is when my finger slips from Cap Lock to tab and I open the player list. |

No one is better or worse than the other. Its just preference and muscle memory. I've used gamepads with pc's for ever and been a sony owner since first playstation. I've got decades of muscle memory invested into that damn controller that I can't play without it. I can but it feels so foreign. I've played around from time to time w kb/m on pc games but if I want comfortable mobility with alert and competitive precision I gotta use a controller.
On the flipside a lifetime kbm player will say the exact opposite. |

I'm playing CS:GO more and more often and I have to say using a Mouse and Key Board is significantly better than a DS3 or whatever they are called.
Not played Dust with one though.

Ohmydear, I get this too all the time...key mapping as it is right now is a bit burdensome. I have seen controller users pull of moves and tricks that had me stand still in mid-battle and stare aghast.
I was brought up a pure keyboard gamer, and have no real choice in that matter. I really try to believe in me not being a complete idiot with mouse and keyboard, but seeing what some controller users can muster in agility on the battlefield sometimes makes me wish I could hold and utilize one myself w/o making the angels weep as I try fervently not to break every finger doing so.

Gamepad has aim assist.
M/KB has input delay.
Guess which one is more useful.

I am a lifetime M/KB user.
This is the first FPS ever where I had the option of using a controller or a m/kb and still choose the controller.
Keyboard control is easier. However the lack of autoaim and the weird movement on the mouse (it....doesn't match to say the least) make guns wildly inaccurate.
My KDR is significantly higher with a controller. |

Everyone knows when you equip a mouse and keyboard you become a DUST god. KB/M lets you run faster, jump higher, strafe better, never miss shots, and do more damage. These things are just not possible on a controller. Everyone should switch to KB/M if they want to have any hope of competing.

Using the Mouse in DUST feels absolutely nothing like using a Mouse on a FPS on the PC. I don't know what it is but it isn't 'right.' It feels more sloppy than you can imagine and seems to have hit detection issues. In fact, I would hazard to guess that the hit detection issues are much worse than most of us know and aim-assist hides a lot of it. Try using a Mouse for a little while. It feels... off.
If you set your controller to the right settings, you can move just as well as a keyboard user, potentially better given analog control. Watching videos by the likes of Moody and Saxonmish certainly show that they can dodge quite effectively.
For sniping, I think Mouse has a miniscule advantage but it still doesn't feel like a FPS PC wise for how "it should control." If you ever used Mario Paint's Mouse, you can potentially understand what I mean. If you have ever tried to drive in GTA or Saint's Row with the Mouse and Keyboard and felt that it was 'just wrong', imagine that 'wrongness' but in regards to aiming and shooting in DUST with the Mouse.

Turn off Aim Assist and use the controller. Get trolled by a front line scout who doesn't even shoot back. You'll understand hit detection issues. |

The only thing a keyboard is better at is acceleration. I've played with a friend who alternates between both. He jumped better with a controller, found aiming much easier (and hit detection better), and strafing easier.
But skill at using either is OP. |

It really isnt controllers vs KBM. Yes the mouse makes sniping and long range shooting easier but adjusting sensitivity on the controller can negate this. I also think the mouse helps CQC, for example : moving one direction and shooting the other accurately.
Its just that weird players use modded controllers or "special " KBM that there is a problem. Some people say its latency and all that but I beg to differ People cheat. Its human nature. I have played some matches that the game freezes everytime I land a shot on a specific player and bam I am dead and the game is back to normal Luckily I got smart and used a nova knife instead

I also think the mouse helps CQC, for example : moving one direction and shooting the other accurately. Sniping is actually harder because mouse has pixel skipping -> sometimes your crosshair will jump right over your target.
Mouse in CQC is also inferior because there is no aim assist and the mouse has an input delay which makes tracking wiggle strafing targets a pain.

KBM is my faved input methode for FPS. But I also tryed to learn Controller use. Its hard but possible to be effectiv with itI am amazed about how good people can actually be with controller.
Only Problem I have is that I allways have to plug my keyboard an mouse into the PS3 and those my pc is out of KBM. Not that big of a problem thought I use the same screen it is using pro attaching the PS3.
Actually I hope to do more of those controller playing but I just think I m to bad at it and should stick to my old habbits.
Offtopic question: Is it possible to learn playing FPS with controllers by an old 30 year old man :D?

Offtopic question: Is it possible to learn playing FPS with controllers by an old 30 year old man :D? it obviously is. It is all about muscle memory, you just have to take a DS3, choose a sensitivity without changing it every 2 hours and train train train. you will suck a lot at start, you only have to keep trying.
On topic: once I tried putting a KB under my feet, when I had to jump I just pressed my fett on the spacebar. (I'm not kidding.) It may look strange but it was quite effective, I think it could be a great idea if I could get used to it
