From what I can read it has a measly 28DB precision. I honestly have no problems killing scouts my problem has been that I could get sneaked up by a heavy or proto assault.

At 28 you'll scan most suits that aren't running at least 2 complex damps, though its best used with gal logi to scan just about everything damped. |

The issue is, scanners aren't very good, and range extenders are worse. It's a dampners game right now, I really dont think there is much you can do until CCP balances the mechanics more. Which they seem to think is fine at the moment.
To answer your question though, yes proto scans will definately catch even the best damped heavy or mando. Thats about it. I would suggest just using range extenders, even though they are in a bad place too. Most suits can scan any other suit less "ewar'd" than them. You just need to have the range to see them before they kill you.

Just one complex damp mod on my Min scout gives me 24 DB, most medium suits go for speed or eHP over ewar so I think proto scanners arent worth it to get scouts

If you run a gal logi using a ranged weapon than yes it's worth it. But don't only think about it for selfish games, you are thinking about being one of those dumb bluedots rather than helping out your team. I run gal logi withsscanner Only to help my squad/team not to help me get more kills. So it depends on your play style. |

If you care about winning more than personal gain yes. They greatly help everyone on the team except the scanner themselves as you'll spend all match hiding and scanning.
Perfect for grinding lp for an apex suit as fw rewards the winning team more than the individual hero. |

Yeah, totally. Especially if you're a gal logi. Even if you're not, it'll still scan most units on the field for your team. Yay teamwork!

It's much better to have a Gal Logi on your team, but yes, the proto scanners are a valuable tool for every player -- particularly the 200m 90deg Flux. |

I love my active scanners, especially in pubs because blueberrys need all the help they can get, and it's good for finding links.
