TL;DR Why do you continue to play Dust?
This question has been bothering me for ages, why do people continue to play Dust 514? I can only fathom 3 reasons as to why people continue to play the game:
A)People continue to play, as they have the notion they have something to prove in Planetary Conquest; to show the world they are capable of having an impact on it. Mainly so they can gloat to the community and rub their etits that they got somewhere in PC. Despite the fact the competition seems to be rather limited with 3 powerhouse corps all merging into one, and a fraction of new players, actually consistently playing the game. And no one cares if x corporation gets somewhere, the game has consistently declining amount of players, and most of the good corps from around a year ago donGÇÖt play anymore.
B)People cannot afford any new games, so they continue to play Dust. Even though it is evident Dust is becoming like your typical pay to play / play to win game which is seen in pretty much all new content, somehow consisting of you having to spend AUR.
C)People liked to be pissed off. From asking around recently, and afking in matches, no one has ever showed a little sign that they even enjoy the game. Which was established as I never heard anyone happy or laughing at something, just rage about everything, weapons, terrain, players, etc
I asked a few people this question, and they said they still play because their friends do, which is understandable. However, if this is the case and we presume most people play for this reason, why donGÇÖt people realize this and just go to another game.
So please, leave a reply below and help me achieve peace of mind, and tell me why you continue to play.

Let me ask you this - what other game supports voice to up to 20+ people and lets an almos infinite amount of others chill with you at the same time in a channel you can name yourself?
It's not so much the game as the social tools and interaction - you can't find this anywhere else but a PC MMO.

Good point, I understand it, but I'm talking about it as a game, not a social network. Don't you usually just leave the game running on voice in a channel? and not actually playing it much?

But there seems to currently be a lack of competition with those 3 corps merging into that 'something something purgatory.' To my understanding they were the 3 best PC active corps that remained, and they all merged into one. (Though there is not a doubt in my mind some of them are going to leave the orgy for some reason or another)
My knowledge on current active PC corps is a bit antiquated since I haven't participated in PC for ages, so I might be wrong.

I also play with a bunch of guys who i have been close knit with in dust, even when joining other corps i've still stuck with them and just done a bit of pc on the side with whatever corp i've joined.. They are not well known as such but they don't care about that and neither do i really. We have fun and that's about it.

I'm playing the game until my I get a job, then I'll buy a PS4 and play Dust a little less. For me currently, I've played Dust for more than 2 years, longer than any other game, and it's progression/ability to still have to unlock more just brings the amusement level. I have hope of Dust moving on towards another platform, but it won't do that if it doesn't have people to play it, hence why I play. Also, while many of my first friends (GAM) have moved on, there are still plenty of awesome people I play with and socialize. 0H has a great crowd, PE has soon really chill dudes (<3 Rampy), CapAq is chill beans for when I'm on late at night, Regnier and the other HLPs are funny, and I just have plenty of other contacts that allow me to come home from high school, kick off my shoes, and charge up my knives with :) Lastly, Star Wars Battlefront isn't out, and neither is the Division...so the urge to get a PS4 is greatly muted. Although I'm saving up now :)
TLDR: Social Life, No major games on the PS4 that I need, hope for Dust, Dust is a great game, highlighting the worst and best things in gaming today, and for me, putting it all into an annoying/addicting package :) 07

I like it. I like this game. Even with all its issues and the constant "under-construction" shenanigans the blend of shooter, RTS and social in DUST coupled with its EVE elements makes for an incredibly unique game. And in a world where profitability margins drive ever homogenized product development a unique product is one I enjoy supporting.

I think Dust has substance, the lore is cool, character upgrades are cool and the variety is great. I'm not a COD fan whatsoever and so that leaves Dust, lol. I also enjoy something that's a challenge and Dust offers that. It's a great war game imo.

Can you define realistic because i played some fking quality ww2 planes like screming demons over europe where if you pitched too hard at certain speeds then your wings would rip off, you'd black out for a sec, you could shoot bits of the planes and stuff as well and was in general fking quality back in the day.
When i played war thunder it was a seriously arcady arena type game i thought but with planes and just really bland and shtty with nothing special to it. It was more beneficial to fly in third person which ruined it for me, any decent plane game has cockpit as the preferred view as it's where all the actual info is at.
There was no actual reason not to fly in third person in that game as you got the crosshairs and much better view altogether. I have not tried it for maybe a year though.

Arcade and Realistic aren't friendly to those who like using throttle sticks and cockpit view. Mouse aim is insanely accurate at range and third person gives more visibility.
However, in Sim mode, both of those are removed, and the plane behaves realistically. You can't just put your nose up and climb like in arcade, or any other silly crazy stuff.
In Sim mode, you are locked in the cockpit and must control your plane. Enabling combat flaps at 400km/h will result in parts of your plane flying off. Pulling to hard a maneuver going to fast will either A.) Send you into an unrecoverable spin or B.) Have parts of your plane fly off. You will have to respect other planes strengths. No Zero in their right mind would climb after an FW with energy advantage, and a P-40 is going to climb instead of trying to scissor with a Spitfire.
Damage is realistic. If your right wing is torn to shreds and you lost tail control, you might as well bail. Engine fire will kill you unless you act fast and cut the throttle back to zero in time to suffocate the flame.
All hud elements are removed. You can't see your enemies short of visuals, and you don't know whos friendly without comms. Stay sharp and always check your 6. You also won't have idiots shooting at 700m anymore, as you have limited ammo and no lead indicator.
Oh, and pulling too many G's will cause you to black out. When flying Jets, it could even knock you unconscious. Gotta know what you can handle
Overall, Arcade is silly and fun, but Simulated is where its at. It's no Cliffs of Dover, but its pretty damn close.

I only play for the people I've come to know and interact with over the past 2 years. My DUST life is committed to making other's better in any way that I can.
I could be enjoying any other game, but I feel like I'm missing out on something far more important without the people.

Roy Ventus wrote:At some point, pain becomes pleasure to a mercenary... Back in Beta, it was literally just fifty shades of gray... That is a lie. Beta was the best time. My most memorable moments come from beta. That's when pub matches were truly fun isk was a valuable resource that had to be managed and gunfights were EPIC. Probably my favorite gunfight of all time was me vs Alex-ZX. Back in beta there was only 3 maps and it was the one with the spaceship thing in the middle and the pipes that go across bravo.
Anyway we spawned in an ambush in our proto #thuglife and were kicking everyone's faces in then we happened on each other at C. Hit detection was such crap and we were great strafers that as his duvolle and my exile exchanged fire we recovered our shields after about 2 clips we each switched to our SMG sidearms and continued to go at it. A blue and a red walked up the stairs and began to help both of us and we mowed them down and returned to our struggle. Luckily my blue was better then his as he took enough damage for me to take a lead and finish him off I had maybe 100armour left when I killed him.
That single engagement lasted probably 1minute and 30 seconds. You just don't have gunfights like that in dust anymore mostly cause the game has fixed what made things like that happen but in fixing those issues it made the games pub matches less enjoyable. Beta was a blessing and a curse. Saying it was just painful is a lie. Those that stuck through uprising 1.0-1.3 and are still here I would agree with your book reference. |

Gotta know what you can handle Overall, Arcade is silly and fun, but Simulated is where its at. It's no Cliffs of Dover, but its pretty damn close.
Holy sht warthunder is refreshing.
Simulated all the way. When i tried the game i personally thought it was a gimmick pile of sht for kids but simulatted is banging.
Cheers.

I'm still playing dust mainly because there's no other fps with many options or ways to play, maybe we got stacked with only 3 game modes, and some issues. But I also agree with Radar R4d-47 this game was way way better with those intense battles of 1 or 2 minutes and a bunch of clips to kill someone.
In my opinion beta time was the best. If u didn't have those fights, u won't understand why it was so freaking funny by far. Right now is like 1 to 5 sec battles, not really interesting ones.
And not sure if almost no one played the beta or many call of shi## players came later because they say that the ttk is perfect, lol, as I said if u didn't live the beta time, u won't understand my point. Epic times still in my memory.
Something really important n that I really appreciate are those events to name weapons, name planets, etc maybe many really hate this game, but I still liking it, it still unique in many ways.
Ps2 sux, bf sux, call of shi## sux.. Mag was funny also 1 or 5 sec battles but was funny.

TLDR: Social Life, No major games on the PS4 that I need, hope for Dust, Dust is a great game, highlighting the worst and best things in gaming today, and for me, putting it all into an annoying/addicting package :) 07 Get destiny on PS4
