By the replies we can get a picture of the player base age and marital status. I mean, not taking any particular answer too serious. The spent spent spent are the 25 or under single or non married guys. The save save save are the married guys with kids. It is a bit of a stretch but, with experience you get to pick up on these things
You want to enjoy life but, also you want to put yourself in a good position and invest wisely. My advice is as follows.
1) take a small percentage of that money (Say $1,000 to $2000 MAX) to satisfy the spending itch. Buy that new computer, get that new jacket or what not. Just remember, set your cap and that is it. If you allow yourself to have $1,000 for play then stick to that.
2) Identify any dept that can be paid off or greatly reduced with a payment. There are many ways to do this like pay highest interest credit card first or simply pay off debt that you are very close to being done for. The idea of paying off debt is to position yourself on a better position so that when the hard times come you can weather it better. Also, having debt is exactly the same as giving money away to strangers. Wouldn't you rather get that money they take in interest for yourself so you could spend it on toys?
3) Fix any machinery or equipment that is part of generating income. A simple example is your car. Can you get back to work reliably? Maybe is time to get those new tires or fix that leak in the radiator. How about fixing that window at home that lets all the hot air get out thus increasing your heating cost. That sort of thing.
4) Set aside some money for emergencies. Put some money in savings and maybe a smaller amount in a CD or some other investment that sits around and generate money.
The idea here is that it is good to have fun and more importantly it is perfectly fine to have fun. However, to mismanage money today will come back and bite you in the rear and it hurts for a long time. So go ahead and have your fun but, have limits too. Remember the 7 fat cows and the 7 starved cows. |
