A long time ago, blueberries could easily jack our vehicles if you didn't hit the O button fast enough. This led to many people (including myself) to ask for vehicle locks.
We eventually received them, but it led to hinder gameplay and didn't improve or involve the concept we had imagined.
Before: Whoever got in the vehicle first.
After: Instantly for the owner, 5 seconds for squad members, 15 seconds for teammates.
(Ironically GTA V, a game about stealing vehicles among other things, has better vehicle locking mechanics than Dust 514 does.)
Now I would like once again to ask CCP to introduce proper vehicle locking mechanics. First up I would like to see this instead:
Future implementation: Instantly for the owner, 5 seconds for squad members, 10 seconds for teammates.
Because sometimes, I would like to transport teammates sometimes.
Now with how vehicles as they are, the most active modules you can have at a time is 6 - 4 highs and 2 lows in a Myron or 2 highs and 4 lows in a Grimsnes.
In the vehicle weapon wheel, when you right click, it brings up squad orders. Since the pilot of the vehicle can't use these for some reason, why not override that function and bring up a different wheel instead?
This wheel could have various options.
Owner: Only the owner can jump in. Passenger Only: Only the owner can jump in the driver/pilot seat. Everyone else jumps in the passenger/gunner seats. Squad: Squad members can jump in the driver/pilot seat. Everyone else jumps in the passenger/gunner seats. Everyone: Anyone can use your vehicle.
Additionally, anyone on your Block list are permanently barred from your vehicles, no matter the setting.
Other ideas: Contacts: People on your contacts list can use your vehicles. Corporation: Anyone from your corporation can use your vehicles. Alliance: Anyone from your alliance can use your vehicles.
Finally, there can be a setting in the Options menu that can have a default setting for your vehicles, so you don't always have to set the lock each time you jump in your vehicle.
