Small turrets are for AI am I right? So when I want to 'play by the rules' I switch to the small blaster turret and blow an entrance through the crowd of reds for my team.
I don't personally want to 'lock noobs out of my vehicle.' I'd be happy if people, who could shoot, got on the small blasters, so I could focus on moving and staying alive. When a random gets in the drivers seat, the team is very much worse off because of it.
Pointless example/rage - Earlier today I climbed into the small turret on my LAV, shot a few rounds at a tank that was right next to me. I see him turning slowly and switch to get into the drivers seat... SURPRISE there's a random in there. No movement, no nothing, just sits there and lets it take some damage before getting out and walking away. Did that help the team? Did the noob learn how to drive? No.
Just give us a pilot suit, that you have to wear to drive a vehicle. No more getting out of vehicles with a HMG and mowing people down... No more being immortal to light weapons fire and then jumping out in a proto suit to continue slaying.
Just a suit, no weapons, no modules, no equipment (well maybe a rep tool if you're feeling generous) that is required to pilot a vehicle.
If you don't mind people using turrets while piloting, feel free to give it hp, but I honestly don't mind if it's like a little green scout suit with nothing on it. |

The answers so far is "so I can kill people in my proto suit before hopping back in my armored vehicle" and "so I can drop uplinks and hives before hopping back in my armored vehicle". The first is obviously unfair and a crappy mechanic to allow. Regarding the second, if Bandwidth was introduced to stop people from dropping links and hives and switching to a heavy suit, why is it allowable for a tanker to drop links and hives and jump into his tank?
The question is wrong. Not everyone loses it getting out.
A pilot suit that has no equipment should be required to pilot, which would solve both issues. But I have to ask, where is the risk in me dumping my expensive equipment on the floor, then swapping to my cheap commando who has a rep tool or needle? My stuff still stays on the ground and I'm in no risk of losing it, while I also now have an extra bit of equipment with me.

I hear a lot of talk about playing two roles simultaneously when it comes to BW, but tankers seem to think it is their due. They also list their lack of agility and versatility yet they are able to wear the exact dropsuit I am wearing. They are now complaining that they want to do this with no risk to their own asset.
The risk would be, getting ganked and losing an expensive vehicle to the other team. Or someone hacking the vehicle... Orrr someone blowing the vehicle up while you're not in it to activate modules/move to safety.
Why should the team I'm helping be part of the risk? In FW they can blow it up if they like, but why should there be additional risk that effects it, even in pub matches?

I do know that commanders don't want players in their tanks, and that is the olive branch of solo HAvs, unlockable through specialization.
How about having 1 of each vehicle deployed at the start of pub matches/FW, with pubs having militia and FW having their factions vehicles fitted with proto modules/turrets?
There's your free for all.
On a side note of locking, how about if people require the turret skills to sit at a turret? I can run militia in pubs if I want randoms in, but when I bring out something I don't want to lose, only people competent enough to have bought into the skills can sit in. Those people are likely the ones that do something useful when I let them in. |
