+1 agree with OP! Sick of witless blues following the tank around trying to get in. You can't focus on your work or help the team when you need to get out because some loser will jump in only to get obliterated 10 seconds later.
Lock option is a must, and long overdue. The 15 sec wait fix was not a fix at all.

Why are vehicles in Planetside 2 locked? Why arent you playing that game then? Tbh...you are making a big fuss over nothing. Counterpoint...when some vehiclist dies while outside of his vehicle no one will be able to rescue it. I lose far more vehicles to joyriders stealing my stuff than I gain from blueberries rescuing my vehicle randomly. Even if they do rescue it, it is almost never returned to my control, in fact I can only recall one single time when I saw a rescue/return of an asset, and that was me and my friend GJMad flew over with a grimsnes, killed a red guy who was hacking a blueberry's gunnlogi, and GJ jumped and, grabbed the tank, and drove it back to the pilot. That is the only time, and Ive been playing this for over a year (two years? I cant even remember). So yeah, Ill take the loss from not having my vehicle rescued that one time in 5000 if I can keep the 10-20 vehicles per week or whatever I lose to some kid or shitstain adult who has no concept of ownership.

If they can just take my tank the isk loss should be theirs! The minute it is destroyed I should receive 298k from the drivers wallet. That'll stop the ever so eager thieves. Isk makes this game go around. Start taking isk, and fix the problem.

If you played the game as much as the people who are asking for this (not saying that you should btw) you would know that competent players generally do not steal vehicles. As it stands, it is ALWAYS a stupid blueberry who just gets the vehicle blown up and/or himself killed without achieving anything that helps the team whatsoever, usually leaving me stranded in a danger zone. If I leave my vehicle and one of my squad drives off with it it's not a problem as I can be sure they will use if effectively, and if not I can direct them via comms which I cannot do with random blues that are not in my squad. Not to mention the fact that squadmates always ask/warn before taking a squad LAV, and in the case of tanks and dropships, only take them to save them from getting destroyed. If our suggestions are too much then just make all vehicles have squad-only access, I don't care if blues can't get in. Either that or make it so that only the owner can pilot the vehicle.Maybe if we had meta-lockouts this would almost cease to be a problem, as we wouldn't be playing alongside noobs all the time. I say almost because there will always be trolls (and FW). Honest question. Honest answer. The question was WHY do you leave your tank. This hasn't really been answered satisfactorily in my opinion. The answers so far is "so I can kill people in my proto suit before hopping back in my armored vehicle" and "so I can drop uplinks and hives before hopping back in my armored vehicle". The first is obviously unfair and a crappy mechanic to allow. Regarding the second, if Bandwidth was introduced to stop people from dropping links and hives and switching to a heavy suit, why is it allowable for a tanker to drop links and hives and jump into his tank?
So let me get this straight? You want the tanker to jump out in a t-shirt if the tank is going down? I mean I jump out if it's burning prepared to help my team, and fight on the ground! The worst thing an AV troop can do is blow up mule tank lol! I'm worse on foot. I can't believe we're talking "fair" in new eden. When I use this word in the forums I get responses like "get gud", " gun game", and "scrub". Well my response to you sir are these.
I'm a relentless player who fights like the devil in every match. I don't even easy mode bro. I run proto assault in my tank with useful equipment for the team, and ready to fight! If the tank goes down I'm jumping out bussing on the first son of a b*tch I see, and fighting my way to friendlies or going down thing two of you out. I'm dripping links, running 200 meter scans, and shooting slick *ss scouts! That's helping my team out! Not just sitting in a tank in the redline because that's what I'm gonna have to do if I can't fight when it's downed. AV is super effective! I get burned all the time! When I do I'm jumping out, and that AV guy loosing isk too d*mnit!!
To answer your question:
I'm jumping out to sh*t links behind enemy lines, shoot dumb*ss scouts knifing my sh*t, help my teammate under fire, shoot strafing AV that the tank can't kill, and when my tank goes down you still got h*ll to pay!
Or...
I can drink tea in the redline while you pray for links, get triple teamed, and wonder where the logi is with the equipment?! Because he's winning firefights on the regular right?
So yes I want a F*CKING tank lock! I'm working here while some newb is exploring in f*cking wonderland?! I like the way my idea sounded. If he drives off and dies he loses the isk! The cost becomes his responsibility! I bet that's a lesson even a newb won't have to learn more than once!
Aldo, why do you guys think tankers should pay such a high price for a tank, and ride around defenseless inside? I'm not helping my team in a stupid militia suit with no equipment?! How many tankers do you want on your team hiding in the redline exactly?

Regarding the second, if Bandwidth was introduced to stop people from dropping links and hives and switching to a heavy suit, why is it allowable for a tanker to drop links and hives and jump into his tank? I've given a list of reasons to include vehicle locks earlier in this thread, only one of them involve leaving my tank (to drop/use random equipment). Keeping slots open for squadmates/friends while keeping transportation vehicles available is reason enough to include a vehicle lock. Also keep in mind that this is also intended to stop LAV/Dropship theft, which are at a much greater risk to unwanted passengers due to always having slots open no matter how you build them. I kind of agree that dedicated pilots should have to use pilot suits, but I dont see any way to enforce that without making people just using vehicles for transport suffer (maybe if you are in a non-pilot suit vehicle performance degrades over time? perhaps). In any case vehicle locks should be included in this game simply because its my vehicle, and I should be able to keep it mine. This isnt battlefield where assets spawn and are available to everyone, everything in the field in Dust belongs to someone and usage mechanics should reflect that.
