One should not have to argue things that should be common sense or common knowledge. If a society can achieve an interstellar empire, it's highly unlikely they're going to be complete idiots about something (without exceptionally good reasons). I have already provided the reason for why they use laser based infantry weaponry, it's very similar to their reasons for laser based starship weapons. Lightsabers are cool.
