I don't see it completely taking people away.
I mean long term I couldn't play either game exclusively, so I will always have room for other games.
Plus I have found with games like Destiny that I miss the community and playing against people I know from forums or have played previously.
That, and I doubt their knife game will be as fun as Dust's.

Just got mine yesterday, and played around a little this afternoon. Figures I would get it at the end of a short vacation...
Was highly confused. Need to get this thing figured out.

Is anyone else finding PS2 a little lacking in direction?
Missions basically seem pointless.
In every other game I have played, there has been some sort of stated goal, which I have yet to find.
Its like the missions are "Attack This" and "Defend That" which mostly feel like moving the battle from one location to another with no indication of what I need to do other than shoot at things that are not on my team.
This afternoon, it just felt like I went from one place to another, and while a lot of things are fun and smooth (not the control scheme however), it feels directionless and goalless which really puts a dampner on everything.
Even with Dust I could fairly quickly understand what the objectives were and what kind of progress I was making...

@ True
Its odd how much a difference those goals make, at least for me.
I play differently (or at least should if I don't always) in each game mode depending on what that is and how the match plays out.
Maybe its because I am so new to PS2, but I couldn't for the life of me figure it out. It tells me to attack a base, and I go there and kill some people, but I don't know what the objective is other than that. What constitutes a captured base?
Same with defending. I kept hearing how our generators were destroyed, but had zero idea where they were, how to defend them, if it was possible to fix them etc.
I just felt directionless.

It happens, you shouldn't really tk because someone killed a buddy, it happens and when the game goes live and you have hundreds of people all firing and fighting in a small space, it does happen a fair bit with newbs and you are all newbs on the ps4 unless you have prior pc experience. You have not seen the horror of inter outfit platoon fighting that gets started from one incident of tk that snowballs lol. "YOU HAVE FAILED THE REPUBLIC, THE FACILITY IS LOST" o7 TR ftw. Yeah, I have TKd accidentally at least twice. The first time, was an assault rifle, so I didn't get warned in time for me to stop firing.
Second was on a knifing. I hit him once and waited, nothing. So I hit him a second time. Nothing. Ran on. Apparently there was a lot of lag because about 10 seconds later I get the verbal warning about griefing.
I really hope they have some color options because I don't like how they are at the moment (same for the controls).

Considering that it was taken over by an investment firm, and the first thing they did was lay off people, yes. These do not strike me as the kind of people that care about games or quality, or even the people that work there. Really?. Well they recently sacked all the staff who haven't done **** for 2 years but roll out cosmetics. So if that doesn't go completely against what you have said then i don't know what does. They are a long term investment company. You do not buy out a company and then alienate it's current playerbase and potential customers, that's what's called a loss mate. You're just negative. Its not that it isn't possible that the investment firm is making real changes for the betterment of the game, just an acknowledgement that most times it is the MO of firms like this to cut staff to give the appearance of increased revenue, then to sell it off before anyone realizes the long term damage being done.
I don't think it is particularly negative to try and understand the disparity in business between the short term incentives that currently exist verses the long term implications.
There just are an unfortunate minority of businesses that look longer term don't merely set up short term incentives that risk longer term success.

Found out I won't be able to participate until the SCEE beta rolls around some **** like that. it is fun but also know that it is not as fun as it should be with all the crashes and low server pop is only at 25% so you're not missing a whole lot yet. there are some epic fights but i would say those equal about 2 hours of the 6 hours the server is up for.. the rest of the time it's been like a normal 16 vs 16 game or late at night before server maintenance it's mostly an hour of soft capping unoppsed bases and exploits like your infantry being OHKed by what's essentially a heavy wielding an AA weapon is annoying AF.. also guided air to air missles with broken decoys and on board fire supression not working sucks.. also the in game comms do not work with any consistency and it's pretty blueberried out right now. Thanks for the heads up..... I'm probably going to be revising my decision to roll Vanu unless that tank handles like a dream boat...... I've been exposed to the Vanguard and more importantly the ideals of Managed Democracy...... well not really but I like big guns, guns that make things explode are even better. ...

Also, I edited my comment in the quote, because it ends at Midnight Eastern, but 9 Pacific. I was confusing myself (and you). I will amend the original post as well

XANDER KAG wrote:So i had given up waiting on my code and was going through my mail to clear out the spam to discover yesterday that I got my beta code on the 3rd......
My experience after 3 hours on one afternoon: I start a new character on Vanu and decided I prefer playing Medic, Light Assault, and Engineer in that order. Both Vanu and TR got camped at our warp gates simultaneously for about an hour by the NC. (may not have been any TR on at the time) We finally take the Xander Biolab and its been 2 hours and is time to get off for a bit. Get back on for an hour before bed, I get to rank 8 (still have only fought NC, the only TR I've seen was driving past my sunderer on an ATV) and decide to try and warp to one of the big maps to see if there would be more people. I then proceed to gradually dc over the next 15 minutes as I try to find anyone on the map, friend or foe. (a side effect of the dc was the inability to redeploy) Vehicle controls are a bit wonky with acceleration and turning on the same stick. I stalled out inside of 5 minutes trying to turn with my first fighter. (I much prefer r2 accelerate and then turning with stick, but couldn't seem to find that scheme in game, probably was too distracted to notice)
My opinions: When it works and there are other people around its pretty fun, though when you don't have enough people to properly defend the capture points it ends up being a rather frustrating game of hide and seek where both sides keep sneak capping A, B, or C while you run to re cap the last one they took. And if you try to stop them, they just finish and are gone by the time you get to the correct building. I'll probably make NC and TR characters in the other 2 slots to test those out over the rest of the week.
So any tips for a rookie?
P.S. Did they just send out a code to everyone who signed up, or was this related to the country thing? I selected U.S. and I only initially signed up for the beta in January this year. If you can't find a good battle where you are, pull up your options, and re deploy. Choose a better location.
Also, from what I understand, you can't warp to other continents until you are level 15. I am only level 9 or 10 because the hours of play are while I work, so I can't play often. You will have to get other confirmation on that.
And codes were sent in the order people requested them, supposedly.

So I still need to apply to the beta and then can use my code to access it? I'm not EU mind you and NZ/AU will this affect me? I can't speak to that per se.
Ask Bayeth though. I got two codes, and sent him one that was labeled "International Code." He is AU, so if it worked for him, and should work for you. If it didn't work for him, then you may have to wait.

I tried getting off of it once, and couldn't figure out how.
Heck, if I sign on early, it is really hard to find a fight.
