A while back I campaigned for the CPM and one of my primary campaign points was the formation of a volunteer based bit like Eve Online's ISD. Realized I didn't need to be a CPM rep to make this happen and decided to launch that campaign as an entirely community based effort, regardless of official CCP interaction, and I need -YOUR HELP- to make it happen..!
The PSD (Planetary Services Department) is an (unofficial) volunter based mock-up of Eve Online's ISD (Interstellar Services Department) which is a group of player volunteers split into several teams who dedicate their free time to support and enrich the players' experiences in the world of Eve Online - or in this case, Dust 514. While in no official capacity like the ISD, the PSD is a consolidated group of players who are no less dedicated toward crowd-sourced assistance toward the Dust 514 Dev Team and the Community alike.
Currently, it is just myself (particularly in the AIV division), but I am looking for more influential members of the community to spearhead certain teams or join me in the team that I've aligned myself with. Resources are posted below, where available.
Please suggest influential members of the community that would potentially be interested in joining and/or leading the following teams (names subject to change at their discretion:
Anomaly Investigations and VerificationsMembers of AIV will work to test all new features post-release and document any bugs, glitches, or general issues on a publicly accessible Trello board in an effort to locate, confirm, consolidate, and categorize any and all problems with the game. Members will work closely with the Bugs/Technical Support forum as a primary means of identification of new issues as they arise. Applicants should show a history of bug reporting and confirmation efforts. Planetary Journalism and Event-TrackingMembers of PJET are general media celebrities who report the ins and outs of all things Dust 514, whether they be in the form of a Podcast, Youtube Channel, or any media outlet. These members are expectantly well known amongst the community and report on anything concerning the game, player-driven events, fact driven, or opinionated, providing a broad spectrum of all things Dust 514 for the community viewer. Applicants should show their respective media outlet which they use on a consistent basis. Celestial Guides and Resources DivisionMembers of CGRD specialize in assisting players with all things related to Dust 514 are are expectantly knowledgeable in a specialized field or broad spectrum applications of the game. They follow a philosophy that a intuitive education toward Dust 514's mechanics provide a more welcoming experience to the game and all it's facets, providing general support and answering questions when provided. Applicants should show a history of assisting new players and the community in general.
Current considerations (entities in the process of contacting):
Members of The Biomassed Podcast team Members of Dust University Members of The Learning Coalition BAMM HAVOC CEO Pyrex

I'd -LOVE- to work with you on the bug hunting bit. You do a lot of good work on the Bug/Technical Support subforum. If you have a trello e-mail lemme know and I'll add you onto the board
Do you know how to get in touch with Fox? I'm thinking either Kevall Longstride of Fox Gaden would be great leaders in the CGRD.

Lemme get some people to spearhead the leadership on the teams and allow them to have direct input on who they're interested in working with. While it is a volunteer based division of teams, we don't want too many people joining all at once without a filter or it'll wind up just being the forums x3

Fox can usually be found on his EVE toon: Renier Gaden. As for Kevall Longstride, you also might know him as Dennie Fleetfoot, the leader of EVE University. Anyways, I'd be happy to come aboard and help out! I'd like to know though: Are we limited to only one position? I'd also like to help out with the new player experience. I've written a couple guides myself (though nowhere near the amount Fox has ) and I'm constantly answering questions in Learning Coalition chat as well as in the Rookie Training Grounds.
I'm really not sure yet, it's still -really- early and we need other people to take the lead on the other divisions because if I try to do it I'll get overworked and everything will fall apart xD
Once we get established spearheads working each division, we can likely collaborate between them as necessary for certain.

Celus Ivara wrote:Yeah, honestly I think that's one of the main things we in D-Uni can do; ie: just to first do more things, and second make more of it externally facing. Doing more open lecturers; pushing more of our internal content to the Wiki's; etc. The elephant in the room is that many of the vets who would be the main content producers in this area have left the game. That said, with all the recent improvements and the new Warlords content, I've noticed a notable increase in general game activity, and relatedly a very notable spike in vet activity, and a desire among people in general to do more teaching and guides.
Right right. The consolidating effort bit is going to come from CGRD and with any luck a player won't have to go to separate Wikis for standardized information. The inevitable goal is for members to have -SOME WAY- of forming information that surpasses the wiki, keep it relatively updated, and then have all of that information freely available to the TLRL for direct translation.
I suspect that AIV will be the most independent of the groups because they're not helping the community in any direct way but instead are trying to show the community what to avoid doing, if possible, and what will happen if they do 'x'. Bug hunting and awareness and all.
One thing I've -ALWAYS- wanted from Eve Online but never had with any consistent form is some to archive and make history high profile wars between major entities that people know about from an unbias viewpoint. Maybe, if they're interested, members of the CGRD can double-up on that whenever they're not focusing on new players.
At any rate, if at all possible, I need Kaze Eyrou and Celus Ivara to hit me up via my e-mail (can be found in the AIV Trello Board) and we'll discuss getting things started =3

Send it to my e-mail, [email protected], for now. I need to get a formalized, actual application going on the forums.
Bearing in mind of course that until I get some head honchos in the other departments (currently CGRD is the hardest considering the two people I would have loved to do so are caught up in other tasks) before applications can be sent in for those. I'd like for senior staff (division leaders) to be able to choose their own teams, much in the same way that I'm choosing my own for AIV.

Celus Ivara wrote:@Aeon: Email sent.
As an aside, I feel the need to reiterate my two points from before:
First, that I do not have the time to make this my main priority. I have projects that can align with the PSD's goals, and I can lend an eye and hand on occasion.
Second, that the PSD would probably get the most traction as a semi-informal networking tool for teachers, bug hunters, and content creators to find and help each others' projects. If it is over-structured, and built to be something where there is a big obligation to log-in and perform, and where there is any amount of bureaucracy that has to be engaged with before a project can be worked on, then I think it will fail to launch.
Examples of stuff that would probably work: "I'm gathering data on the new weapons; who want s to shoot me while I record numbers?" "I just wrote this new guide; anyone wanna read and give tips before I publish it?" "I'm shooting a rad video; anyone with a capture card wanna record me blowing stuff up?"
Example of something that will probably turn contributors away: "This is our project right now; everyone needs to be working on this."
Right. That's been consistent, generally, with how I usually handle up on bug hunting. There's been a few people from the skype groups that are usually willing to lend a hand (albeit I stopped working with Arkena because he has a terrible habit of using the testing environment to score some free kills and have a laugh, lawl). Whenever I can't find someone I know is a good tester I usually offer up ISK or Aurum or something to someone to come help out for an hour or so.
The reason that the AIV has a hard two-week participation rule is because I really don't think it's much to ask of anyone to go and work on a single bug in a two-week timespan. If they can't offer that up then it's probably best to cut them loose and find someone who can because, as previously stated, there's an effort to keep the PSD with as few members as possible as to not just turn it into Forums 2.0.
You have no need to worry

Yeh, well... That's fine I guess. I think there's a bit of the ol' "Work expands to fill the time available," going on. Most of the really-awesome-people who work on really-awesome-projects have already maxed their schedule with a number of really-awesome-projects. There's no space left to fit anything new in. :\ Pretty much. I take on about as much as my time permits, anything beyond that starts to cut into my personal relaxation time. Like I said I don't mind helping, but I also don't have the time to just have it dropped in my lap and say "Go for it!" you know?

A'ight so the PJET division might be taking off pretty soon. BAMM HAVOC is doing a pretty good job getting some of the media guys (youtubers and what not) together and hopefully we can have some more interaction between them and the community pretty soon. I'm open to suggestions as to how (Trello board with categories relating to individual Media guys with cards for their activity?)
On another note, I've opened up the AIV Trello Board to public comment. So if you have a work-around or replication method for a bug that hasn't already been determined, hop on in there and make a comment on the respective card. Bear in mind that this is a test phase to see how it works and if it gets out of hand I'll turn it off. Please be respectful.
Cheers

Not being able to believe that a person is upset about something doesn't change the fact that they're upset.
At any rate, look, I'll be upfront with you: As I said in the original post, I'm looking for people to lead the other departments. Due to the fact that people the people -I- wanted to lead those positions either aren't interested, simply don't have the time, or are tin-foiling the kitten out of the whole thing by assuming I'm using this as a "Aeon for CPM 2" front..... That department doesn't have a leader.
This is a community crowdsourcing thing. I have no control over it [the other departments] at all and I want no control over it. The only thing I have control over is the AIV because that's my division; I set it up and I got my team together. Nothing is stopping someone else from doing so if they have the drive to make a team, streamline the efforts by said team, and communicate with the community at large to keep it going. If you want to lead it, find people that will follow you and do so. If you want to be a member, find someone to lead the charge and follow them.
If you're just wanting my approval than.... Sure, go for it. You don't need me to play father figure and tell you what you can and cannot do, I'll support you either way if I feel it helps the community as a whole. But I'll also be the first to jump your kitten if I think you're abusing it for your own agenda.

Only two divisions currently up and running are the AIV which I've sort of... slowed down with because I've been on a mass gaming spree (in the middle of changing jobs and buying as many games as I can before I have to deal with that)
And the PJET which is officially run by BAMM HAVOC.
Other divisions seriously need team leaders, in particular the TLRL so that they can translate the bug reports from other languages for us to track.

Been talking with some of the guys from ISD over on Eve Online on how they do things and getting some advice. Planning on talking with CCP Affinity (ISD Divisional Supervisor) and CCP Phantom (Pretty much runs ISD) about some things.
To paraphrase: I'm going to restart the PSD project as I was a little over my head the first time around and got stressed/overwhelmed, but I think I can make it work this time now that I have a clear idea of what I did wrong the first time. It's going to be difficult though, so I need some -serious- assistance from the community, so if you'd like to volunteer PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE send me an e-mail at '[email protected]' with subject line: PSD Volunteering.
Like, for real guys, I -cannot- do this alone and I really need your help. We can make this into a viable thing and I still have a lot of hope and optimism for community crowdsourcing as a whole.

I could possibly help but the only thing that has wifi in my house is my phone which I'm currently using to type this...
All depends on what you want to do, really. AIV was mostly done through Trello and in-game testing. Trello is applicable by mobile (if a little frustrating) and so is Slack. If you can bear through the interface and UI I think we could maybe use your help there.
Like I said, depends on what you want to do. Take a look through the divisions and lemme know.
