Some matches go ok, a little lag in the first few seconds. Yet it takes me a little longer to spawn.
And then there are matches where it's unbearable to look at my tv screen. The frame rate goes to sh*t and blue shields on everyone. Spawn. Die. Spawn. Die. And going up against certain people exacerbates that fact...
Now, I'm unsure if it is my PS3 (even though its the "newer" version, the slim) or my internet provider -- because whenever I have a lady friend over, the lag is unreal.
I'm already looking into a new provider. But do I also need to get an SSD? Or was this being transferred to the PS4?...

The game I'd guess, considering the amount of people with this issue.
Could be the cross ocean players, I tend to stick in uk for that reason.

You sure? My friend lives 15 minutes away from me and spawns in, hacks the point, and I barely spawned on the ground.

How full is your PS3 hard drive? (If you have PS+ it tends to fill up quite quickly)
I have a Hybrid drive (Seagate Momentus XT 750GB), and it works like a charm PS3 boot up gets much faster, and dust improves quite a bit as well. I normally see the Warbarge for like 20-30 seconds before a pub game, and the map loads much faster allowing me to spawn quicker.
Granted, I rarley had any lag before the new HDD, so I don't know if it will help with that. (Have you checked which battle server you have selected in settings? I have mine on automatic, but you could try changing that)

SSD drives enable you to spawn faster, they give you around 20 second in the warbarge in pubs too - sadly they do not stop the frame rate drops, rubber banding, shield flares, hit detection and groundhog moments. |

It's the game. These issues have been present and prevalent since release. Hit detection has gotten marginally better but framerates are still absolute garbage.
It's sad, honestly. I love this game and really want to play it but the CCP devs are so much more focused on adding more bells and whistles in the form of Aurum and less on fixing performance issues. Hell, I would gladly buy another Veteran pack or whatever if it meant they could make the game run smooth and at a consistent 30 FPS. Right now I assume a lot of the cross-region battleservers causes many of the issues. I see games with US, Brazil, EU, and JP players all in the same match which is just a recipe for disaster when it comes to performance issues.

Guess I'll have to check my hard drive... And yes, I have PS+. How much would those hard drives cost?
And to Funkmaster Whale: I was in a game with Saluki, Venezuela/Dust Brasil, and one guy from Made In Poland.... It wasn't actually bad (on a bridge map), with the exception where everyone was clustered on the point...

If you use a SSD, you tend to spawn in first.
This says to me the issue is with the OP's HD performance.
You might: Try defragging it. Try rebuilding the database. Try reformatting it and reinstalling Dust.
One or all of these should help your problem....but Whale is right in that some of what you describe is likely due to high-latency players. |

It wasn't actually bad (on a bridge map), with the exception where everyone was clustered on the point... I've been noticing this a lot as well, and it's become especially bad since they added the new scan changes.
My theory is that with the new scan changes now having different calculations for short, medium, and long range instead of a be-all-end-all scan that large clusters of enemies are causing a lot more stress on the CPU than before. Like if you take the Gallente Lag Facility on Dom and you put both teams in that little pit, the game becomes nigh unplayable because of how choppy it is.
I made this video a while ago demonstrating how framerate affects rate of fire and my example was in the map I mentioned. When I do the laggy rate of fire test both teams were near the point and my framerate was consequently awful. The first non-laggy test was at our groundspawn with no one near me, thus no lag.
My point regarding cross-region play is that you'll notice when you go up against BR, EU, JP or whatever players on US servers, the hit detection against these players is awful. I can target track strafing players no problem, but against a player from another region it becomes a blueshield mess. You can actually try this yourself. Set your battleserver to Asia and go play on their servers for a little bit. It'll be laggy, yes, but you'll start to notice how much harder it is for the enemy to hit and do damage to you.
I once was having connection issues for a good while that caused my ping to constantly spike and it happened consistently for like a solid week. I got so much hatemail from people calling me a "lag-switching POS" or whatever, while aside from some rubberbanding my game ran great, but in 1v1 firefights it was like I was invulnerable because on their screen I was skipping around and they were unable to hit me.

One or all of these should help your problem. But that's all an SSD will really do for you - spawn in times will be accurate.
You'll still have rendering issues and lag. The best way to fight it is reset your connection to the server often.

Or LoD'ing(Level of detail) problems....
I Still drive into the new sockets full blast with an LAV.... Only to have it stop dead then float up into the air while the entire city is a mash of unloaded textures...
You will have an LAV full of friends and everyone gets it...
That new caldari socket.. You can spend 3-4 minutes in it with textures looking like mush before LOD'ing mechanic starts rendering in the textures.
This game runs like sh!t....

Bethhy, I know what you mean. I've run into that city with my scout and I'll be halfway to the letter before anything fully renders at times.
It's pretty bad in skirmish, even worse in domination. As I'll spawn in after the fact and it will still take a few seconds to render.

I knew I had spawn lag when I saw the video of Prima Gallicus stomping Nyain San in a PC. The guy chose a suit, chose his spawn, and 3,2,1, BOOM. Running.
Meanwhile, if that was me it would be: Choose suit, choose spawn, 3,2,1........ spawn, wait for the black screen to pass, run.

SSD will definitely get you in the warbarge and battle faster but has no advantages during the battle.
Framerate issues are due to your internet connection and hardware/coding limitations. Remember, your internet connection has little to do with the speeds your ISP quote and more to do with the availability of ports at the node you are connected to (unless FTTP of course).
Reference:
I live in a rural town in Australia, play on the US and Asia servers mainly and have ADSL connection (yep, that's ADSL) I have had bad framerates in maybe 5 games in total since open beta and were all on the Europ server (I don't PC though admittedly).
A mate of mine that I used to squad with had a faster connection but lives in a busy suburban estate and experienced hit detection and framerate issues more frequently which became most of the time mid-late last year. The problem with his was that there were connections that were "stacked" in the node - more connections than there were ports - which choked his speeds. Once his connection was changed to another node, the framerate and hit detection issues disappeared.

I used to have pretty bad framerate. I recently got better internet though -- and my frame rate has been significantly higher because of it. Take that for what you will. |
