1) I hate strongboxes, also there is nothing useful in them and I don't buy AUR, pay to win!!!!
2) Adds amazing stuff to strongboxes
3) Why can't I just buy this stuff directly for AUR in the Market
Missed the point entirely. It's not that we want to buy it directly on the market, it's just we want some guarantee that we're not going to get caught in a long run of bad-luck that requires EXTRAORDINARY amounts of money to find even a single BPO/BPC, let alone the one we're shooting for.
Another factor is that BPO's being in strongboxes insinuate that there's a chance we'll get more than one, which is unnecessary.
There's also the factor of the strongbox/key ratio just from playing the game - it's incredibly one sided. I've got 75+ just chilling in storage and I haven't really played the game in two weeks. The game hands these things out like candy but we're expected to get keys through daily missions (which is skewed as well because they sometimes are only reward for the Savant daily mission, which requires you to spend aurum for the instant boost...)
Everyone hates strongboxes in their current form. They're given out far too freely and -EXPENSIVE- as hell to open at the rate they're given out. It's the fact that we have to not only play the game, but are basically forced to spend exorbitant amounts of money for a -chance- to get the thing we want.
Make sense?
Why do you want guaranteed, better looking, not even more powerful gear? I know a few WoW raiders that have the same issue except that their gear is actually better, and they have no guarantees. "Forced" is a very weird word in this circumstance.
Because that's the entire premise of vanity items? O.o;;
Take a look at Warframe for instance. You can totally get some different helmets through playing the game but to my knowledge there's no way to obtain animation sets, color palettes (to color your suit), or different texture patterns through in-game play. It's all monetization based. There's no real 'gamble' at it, the players aren't throwing in $10 to -MAYBE- get what they want among a whole host of other options like we do with the Strongboxes.
It's one thing we've been trying to get through to you guys at CCP is that you have this -GLORIOUS- opportunity to make tones of money by allowing players to spend money to look a certain way on the battlefield without it having to be an 'upgrade' or 'better performing' gear (I.E: BPO's or APEX suits which reduce ISK losses). People will pay for the color schemes.
And yeah, okay, 'forced' is the wrong word... Incentivized/encouraged, more like. I don't really care for the Kaalakiota Scout. I don' want it, I don't run Scout. So if I throw $10 worth of money to get some keys, open up a bunch of strongboxes, I have a -chance- at getting a Kaalakiota Scout just as much as a Roden Sentinel (which is what I want).
It'd be different if there was a trading system where I could trade that Kaalakiota Scout with someone for a Roden Sentinel. I'd be chill with that. But there's not, so, in order to look flashy on the battlefield I have to invest as much money as necessary to get the kittened thing x3
