KILL-EM-QUICK RISE of LEGION

I'm losing hope in Legion for two reasons. First there is no plan to showcase anything from Dust or Legion at fanfest 2015. It's possible that they just aren't making any promises, trying not to get our hopes up, which after last fanfest is understandable. The 10 year plan is still in a very sense still in place, and the past couple of months have shown that development is alive and well....... for Dust 514. We were told that focus was going to be on Legion a year ago, and that the only changes to Dust would be back end and balance. Since then there have been not only been those changes but a multitude of new features and interfaces, the kind of updates that weren't promised for Dust at all.
This would be great news, but the PS3's days are numbered, even if it remains popular for a few more years this game has a long term appeal that would outlive the console. So the lack of any Legion(PC) or Dust 514(PS4) updates since fanfest and the uptick in Dust 514(PS3) content and attention makes it seem like all the focus is on making as much money with this current game as possible before the inevitable migration of players to newer consoles. This is why I lose hope, a new iteration of Dust for a new platform may not have enough resources by the time this current iteration is dead.
On the other hand...... The changes to the in game models have been purely paint scheme changes, which means the modellers are likely busy designing and modelling higher resolution or entirely new suits, vehicles, and weapons. In addition there have been only a few new socket, which are actually older sockets that were delayed. It's entirely possible the building and map making department are refining, resizing, the current maps, learning from the issues of our current models. There have been no additions to the EVE connection in a very long time, but the new faster iterations of update in EVE, which actually started in Dust are very cross development friendly. CCP has admitted that many of these events was data gathering, so it look more and more like Dust is a beta for many features likely included in a completely different game. Additionally there have been many smaller different ways to pay for the game added, so more successful than others, but they are perfect for finding the optimal pay scheme for a new game as well.
The next gen talk has gone quiet on both the player and developer side of these forums, but now more than ever it's important to discuss it as upgrading becomes inevitable.
So to the players I say appreciate every update to Dust, good or bad, they are tests to help refine and build a much better game for the future, that if CCP can hold there word too, we can continue the progress we've made in this game so far.
To CCP, I commend you for making a more grounded approach to development over the past year. Your communication on future ideas are more narrow, realistic, and have been delivered more timely and efficiently than ever and again I appreciate it. Keep up your current progress and don't give up, a new start can be a game changer, like Final Fantasy and Marvel Heroes 2015. We only ask that you keep us posted on your progress and don't leave our progress behind when the next big thing does happen. The respect you lost at fanfest 2014 is slowly creeping back, but it's still fragile.

skimmed, however your last line says exactly why they are being quite. Based on numbers, in the 2013 fincial report, it is clear that dust did make money. Ignoring the WoD write off. CCP was up about 10m in revenue. A good chunk of that was dust related. The question is, however, how much.
I personally think, that dust did not make as much as hoped, it under performed. I think Dust under performing would of been fine, but i think there was some technical issues with getting dust to be the game CCP wanted on the ps3. Plus there might of been some mild hicups dealing with sony (nothing deal breaking, but prolly a few hurdles when it coems to what they could and can;t do with dust) I think, they also were making progress on valkaryie, and saw some competition on the horizon, along with business choices, and decided it would be much better for CCP to focus on one IP and one platform.
When they announced legion on the pc, the crowd exploded in the dust key note. The problem was... they then stabbed everyone in the back and lost alot fo the tracktion they could of had. If they had done a "here is what we have for te next few months of dust' with some legit updates, then showed legion eithe rin ccp presents or the end of the dust key note, it would of been green lite by now. But they didn't.
The updates to dust are imo one of three things:
1) old work that was in the pipeline but put on hold due to legion.
2) ground work for legion (i.e. in order for legion to be what they want it to be they need to prepair dust to become legon)
3) a second glancing at the state of dust and the money they are making.
I feel legion is being worked on, and more will coem when tey are ready. I would rather have then quite about stuff nto ready then to kill progress and ruin dust, again.
Not talkign is good. And the improvements to dust are good. My opinion, stop worring about legion and if you are having fun in dust, keep having fun. its either going to come out or its not. So why stress it? |

The thing is I'm not having fun in Dust anymore. Since last fanfest I've been slowly getting back into PC gaming. My only real connection to Dust I have are my friends in my corp, and the occasional update on drama in Molden Heath. Even my interest in EVE has waned despite all its updates. I can't wait forever for CCP to deliver on a shared universe as other MMOs are getting my interest and taking up my time.

I wouldn't expect Legion before late 2016 to early 2017 if it does actually get a greenlight.
I expect this is the reason why we aren't seeing any updates this year. Just gonna wait and showcase it next year. I also would not, at all, expect Legion to be in a well balanced and playable state with lots of features and a real connection to New Eden before 2020. |

If you were to ask me if I thought Legion was still being developed I would tell you no. But I still think there is a 10% chance to me that CCP is going ahead with Legion which still means there is **** chance of Legion getting out there to be what Dust514 was suppose to be.
Back a few days after Legions announcement I thought that we would be hearing so much more about Legion in the coming weeks but CCP said nothing. Now here we are close to the end of January 2015 and still nothing on Legion (except the post that there will be no news about Legion at fanfest). What we do have however is news about updates for a game that should've been shutdown long ago and remembered as a reason to not put such big game ideas on consoles anymore.
The game should've been so far ahead of where it is now, back in 09 with the carbon engine things were looking interesting for CCP and the New Eden Universe but oh no they had to go with the damn console(ps3). Get a new game engine, figure out how to work with the ps3 and sony. Now here we are 6 years later the games potential held back by CCPs lack experience with the ps3+Sony and most importantly the hardware limits of the ps3. Stuck in a stage where we have no idea what CCP is doing.
Are they even working on Legion? How many people do they have left working on Dust514? Why is Dust514 getting updates still? Are these tests for what they want to do with Legion? Or is Legion dead and have they decided to go ahead with Dust514?
I would be surprised if even one of these questions above got answered indirectly or directly anytime soon.
Should Legion be on the ps4?

My prediction would be that the overall vision for Legion has shifted a lot since FF2014 and instead of aiming for Dust 2.0, a product which they could probably have released within a year, they are reaching for the stars.
Once the studio realized the roadmap went from 12-18 months to something more along the lines of 3-5 years, they reallocated some resources back to Dust, as there won't be a Legion to replace it for a while. |

Or ever.... lol but yes it's still possible that they are working on Legion.

All that time u need to put into it though and no ones paying me to do it. Plus I don't know how to do any of that shite, I sort of understand it but that's it.

It is not easy by any means. I completely suck at it which is why I don't rip on games in a demeaning way. I am getting better at height maps since I started using World Machine,. I then import the maps into the game engine after completion in World Machine. I have high hopes for info this year for Dust514 on the PC. And just the fact that Dust is getting updates is frakn awesome.

It would be awesome to me if I knew that these updates were being used to test what they want to do with Legion. I don't wanna touch the ps3 that's been gathering dust and I don't wanna bother with the game anymore. The idea of the game is what I care about still. It's highly unlikely that we'll be getting Legion or Dust514 on PC this year. Maybe an alpha or closed beta(which for some reason I feel EVE players will get into first) towards the end of 2015.

I feel the same way. I gave my PS3 to my mom to use as a blu-ray player and otherwise have no desire to play actual games on it. I still love the idea and soul behind Dust though and really want to continue playing it on PC. |

I think their biggest mistake was trying to go for the Console market to begin with. DUST should have been made for the PC and left at that. Would have saved them time and trouble developing it for the PC now. |

Yup exactly why such a game with potential has been held behind.
