COD: -maps and weapons avaible are sold in DLC packs -maps can only be played by people who bought the maps -weapons can be put on your class but used aswell against people who havent bought the addon cause the game gets a "compability patch".
Same thing happends in other games. So to help funding new vehicles and weapons why not sell the skillbooks required for AUR only? Or aswell make them a drop from the strongboxes. I know this sounds like a devilish concept but if CCP doesnt make money off from this we wont see new stuff.
I was thinking about a concept like this: -amarr HAV operation skillbook 4.99Gé¼ -minmatarr shotgun operation 4.99Gé¼ -minmatarr autocannon large turret operation 4.99Gé¼
The operation skillbook would be your entry ticket but after that proficency and the other skills could be bought for ISK. The vehicles and weapons in question are ofcourse sold for ISK. To ecnourage people to buy the skillbooks you could give away 10 freebies which require no skill to use (like the standard AUR items) so you can judge if you like the thing or not.
Just to be clear about this whole "cashgrab concept" weapons, vehicles, turrets etc. would require new 3D modells and not reused assets borrowed from other weapons o vehicles.
They don't need to make new assets as paid DLC; they can make it free like they did before. Also paid DLC splits the community like others said, so it is not a good idea with a game that has very little population also they probably won't get much money from it either because not everyone buys map packs.
Game companies technically can make free DLC, but sometimes policies of publishers can prevent that. Making new content like map packs and guns and such doesn't cost a lot of money I think; so it is an easy way of getting money. Development by companies that make those games you talked about operate differently from CCP; usually they have different teams supporting the game after the game shipped and after the game shipped another team is working on a different game. F2P developers usually just stick to one game for a very long team like a MMO development team. Paid DLC does not make the DLC any better; that is up to the quality of the development team and resources . CCP imo does not make very good quality updates for dust at least or have a lot of resources . Also CCP has been committed to free game content updates I think they did a decent job at . Although not the best as they really didn't add much content to the game over the course of the years Dust has been out.

Besides, Dust is making enough money as it is with Daily Mission roll overs, boosters, other AUR consumables like suits and weapons, BPOs, and merc packs which give you the most bang for the buck. Dust is no longer dependent on funding from Eve Online if I understand it correctly which is a good thing.
You or anyone don't know how much money dust makes and how much would be 'enough' (enough for what ?) . Only CCP really knows. If if anything it is enough to keep the servers up, paying the small dev team , and updating the game by using existing assets, but I don't know know if it is solely money that only goes to Dust or goes to the larger share of what CCP makes and which then Dust gets a budget. I heard a dev said dust gets a budget awhile ago so I guess its that. |
