If I have to solo I just go in expecting that my blueberries drink paint thinner and my redberries will be 70m lifetime SP PC overlords. It's just easier that way. Hooray for starter fittings and APEX dropsuits!

It only takes one merc to separate from the flock and place a link elsewhere... especially during the situation OP described. I'm not saying a solo player can't help a team earn a victory. I'm just saying that if you hate soloing (and I could see why someone would) then don't. Squads are much easier to find than some people make them out to be. Join channels, have a corp that encourages squading, make a friend, be social.
I know I'm asking a lot of our more neckbeardy players, but finding a squad is not rocket surgery.

One Eyed King wrote:The problem I have is that for the majority of Dust's time frame I could solo if I wanted and not have too much of a problem. I could do my thing and still be a benefit to my team because the games were more or less evenly matched. Not that there weren't stomps, but that they were much fewer and further between than now.
Now the games are so miss matched that its pointless to even try. I don't even hold it against redline snipers anymore. I tried still doing something, and I lost over 300k in one match running just a 48K Quafe outfit.
It is quite possibly the worst thing that could have happened to the NPE as well. I feel for you. It's been ages since I ran solo consistently myself.
It's not what many people want to hear, but Dust 514 is very squad-centric. I don't know if Rattati altered team building this way on purpose or not, but it pays it be in a squad now. And I mean, in a big way. I am not sure that Dust 514 is a solo player's game anymore.
It reminds me of Eve Online, in a way. You can solo in Eve, but it is more dangerous, less rewarding, and generally boring. Of course, CCP allows players do it because it is a sandbox game. They don't encourage that type of play though. They want you in fleets together; bullshitting on comms, making friendships, betraying each other, etc. As opposed to mindlessly running missions 24/7 by yourself.
I got off on a tangent... my bad.

One Eyed King wrote:It always has been squad centric, which I don't think is a bad thing in and of itself. It used to be that you would at least have a squad on your side as well.
If there wasn't there was still a chance that your randoms were good enough to at least make the game competitive.
Now it seems like squading significantly increases your chance of winning, while running solo dramatically increases your chance of losing which shouldn't be the case as teams should consist of both squaded and unsquaded mercs. If Dust didn't have such a small player population I would say that we need a deathmatch arena-style gamemode where it's everyone against everyone. Maybe reduce the match size to 16 players total in this game mode. This would encourage solo mercenaries.
And I'm going to bring it up again: we need some form of PvE that can be done in groups or solo. PvE would allow a solo player who just wants a 20 minute reprieve from getting his teeth stomped in to kill some Sansha pirates zombies or something. Then he can jump back into the meat grinder.
Make PvP and PvE connected to one another. Make PvE "contracts" drop from PvP matches at a certain interval. You can't do a PvE mission without one of these contracts. This would keep people from just carebearing in PvE every single day.
