I've always loved talking about the more tactical side of Dust. I've been a way a long time... I would love to hear your personal stories of triumph using strategical and tactical maneuvers. Short and simple. Playing DOTA 2, I realized how in-depth players can get into a game and I personally thought Dust was capable of trapping you I that same sensation. Tricking the enemy or just making a good play, it doesn't matter to me.

I don't have my most memorable tactics, but I have my most memorable moments.
I will still never forget the day pre-1.8 when I got 8 kills within 8 seconds in a single shotgun clip inside my scout on the Gallente Facility. I died while reloading, but it had me laughing for 2 more lives. |

Woah o.O how the Hell did you manage that? Can't remember how big the clip size was but I feel like it was less than six. And because of the way the shotgun function and whatnot, I'd believe it would be hard landing a single shot back then.

There I was on the border gulch map Ambush on the bridge...
We were getting our asses handed to us when I spawned into the game and I was disappointed I had spawned into an existing game and the clone count was so lopsided that it seemed like all hope was lost.
So I did what I always do...loaded up my combat logi fit and went to work, got killed a few times and killed maybe ONE guy with some stray bullets I was spitting out....
So I decided to travel under the bridge upon respawn and I went around the back and hit the cloak and ran right past the problem. 4 heavy's and 4 logi's standing there mowing down anything that came through like a meat grinder. I uncloaked and switched to the RE's and was able to get 4 of them down before they noticed I was there.
In came the hellstorm of heavy fire, but I had predicted that would happen and made a suicide leap off the rails and jumped clear off the bridge. Once I got down to the ground and through the inertia dampener I pulled up my boundless clicker and tapped the button.
I got all 4 heavy's and all 4 logi's in one remote explosive shot. That allowed my team to advance and obtain control of a turret and one guy, don't remember who started mowing down respawns in the turret and from that point we came back from behind, I was still mowing down with my AR and dropping RE's and the turret was finally destroyed by a tank, of course.
It was neck and neck...literally got down to like 23 vs 13 and then someone on my team dropped an orbital and the feed rained and then it was like 5 and 5, 4 and 2, 1 and 1 and then by sheer luck we won!
I feel like I had a small part in that....it was those 4 RE's and jumping off the bridge that cleared out the heavy's and that's when the tide changed...plus the guy on the turret mowing down the raspberries lol
It was a most epic moment! |

The most satisfying part of this game for me is FCing: Coming up with a strategy for your PC and executing it to perfection, then having to react to and overcome something you didn't see coming, on the fly and in real time....and winning.
Second to that is leading your squad in a pub to a nailbiting, come-back win. Being able to see the clutch move and inspire your squad to execute it.
Third is participating in one of the two, above. |

I don't really have any good tactical stories to tell but there is this one moment that I told about before.
Early in the history of DUST, a squad mate of mine whose name I can't recall and I were out in the open trying to get to an objective. He was wearing his Sentinel dropsuit wielding a forge gun and we were about halfway from reaching our destination when we suddenly spotted an LAV racing toward us. So my squad mate charged up his forge gun and just when the LAV was like fifteen feet away (or 4 and a half meters for non-Americans), he absolutely destroys it in one shot, causing it to skid to his left along the ground on its front bumper.
I have never seen anything more awesome than that since. |

Greatest tactic I ever did was sporadic:
I was in a Gallente Commando and below a hill. I saw that an HAV was going to run off the top of the hill I was running up. So I started sprinting up. I got just close enough to get a buzz cut as the HAV ran off the hill, and just as it did I shot its underneath with a KLA-09 Plasma Cannon. Took out nearly all of its health and then shot its back with another shot.
Two critical hits with a Plasma Cannon. Gunlogi never stood a chance.

As for the method, I bumrushed A (Skirmish) from the other side (B side bridge), and got really lucky and took cover where they spawn when I had the chance. When I started reloading, I died because 5 spawned right on me.
Back then, I used the shotgun and Scout almost exclusively, so I guess I got good at it. Now, that I use other stuff, I'm bad at everything lol |

Playing a game of skirmish in which xXLoneWolfXx, a tanker i have considerable respect for, was also playing in. I'd encountered him in a few previous matches and, as an AV player who prides himself on knocking out shield tanks, was pretty impressed with how he used the map, nthe red line, nthe speed of his tank and his precision with a rail turret to effectively lock down, clear out and then guard successive points on the map, effectively dominating it.
I won't lie; in this one match, I never killed him, I was never able to land the killing blow from my plc, but I was able to use every inch of cover available and keep him pinned down inside of his red line, limiting his ability to influence the fight. He caught me a few times of course, but I respawned back in and went straight back to it so he'd know I wasn't a short-term problem. It was not a sexy fight, or even that dramatic, but it felt like I'd applied everything I knew about AV to good effect, and I landed a few sweet long-range plc shots to boot.

I've heard that someone in a Commando suit (when it was only the Amarr and was still ****) melded a burning LAV, stopping it dead in its tracks. Can't remember who, I think it might have been... Naw, I don't know.

Being chased by an assault when im low on life from a gun battle on a catwalk. Turn a corner and there is a heavy in front of me. Too much armor to jump the rail. I'm dead so I last second toss a grenade hoping to net a freebie luck kill before I go. I had forgotten I had AV grenades on that fit. Grenades bounces off the heavy's head and falls off the catwalk.
As luck would have it there was an enemy tank almost dead from a tank battle he had just won right below the catwalk with 2 guys using him for cover. Grenade lands on top killing the tank, it's passenger, plus the 2 guys next to it.
Yup....'tactics.' ;P |
