Broadsword...? I wouldn't consider the conventional basket hilt sword necessarily brutal and slow....but if you refer to the "ye olde" broad sword...... those things didn't have great reach.
If you want brutal and slow why opt for a conventional sword which is arguably considered neither?

Though I loathe the concept of out of place melee weapons Amarr have to be given either a Lance/Thrusting Blade Weapon, Whip, or Hammer.
Swords are for tools and are symbolic of a warrior culture more so than the staple weapon that built an Imperial culture (sorry Thal)

I don't think any of these things should be included. These incredibly powerful rifles exist for a reason. If something does have to exist for arguments sake it needs to adequately represent the race.
The Caldari do not use Tridents......no one is likely to use Tridents.....except maybe Brick.
I could see one race using a Swordbreaker type knife or baton (Gallente). Another using a hooked version of a Kukiri (Amarr). Maybe a Minmatar variant of a Mere bladed warclub.

But you genuinely need to offer a reason why CCP should accept this kind of weaponry as a norm in New Eden...something more compelling than "becuz it's fun".
They simply do not fit the setting at present.
