i no longer fret over sp, in fact i could care less about it. this desperately needs a fix, new skills, new content, something to motivate me to grind away sp like i did in the days of old.
and not just 1 or 2 new skills, i mean an entirely new skill tree so i would hope we could spitball some ideas to ccp.
1.) movement speed- .5% per level (2.5% at 5) 2.) bandwith cost reduction- 2% per level (10% at 5) 3.) acrobatics- 2% to jump height (10% at 5) acrobatics profiency- 5% reduction to stamina consumption when jumping(25% at 5) 4.) inertia dampning- 5% reduction to fall damage (25% at 5) 5.) diplomancy- 1% increase to purchases and sales prices (5% at 5)
if you have any of your own please keep the percentages at a modest figure and don't list skills that already exist or would be game-breaking.
if you shoot me from the redline i will ensure your death will be a swift one

To go along with the acrobatics, make a biotic upgrade that can increase your jump hight or something. Also, I had an idea. I think that CPU and PG upgrades should be classified as "Hybrid Modules". This will allow you to place in either a high or a low but not both maybe.

What if you could convert sp into loyalty rank and when they achieve vet status they'll be met by the same dilemma i've been facing.
good idea but it would hurt aurum sales so not likely.

As you guys wander about looking for something to do with your SP, I'm still grinding my butt over here trying to level the playing field. As a 6 month old player with only 5 million SP (i can only play on weekends), I literally play DUST non stop over the weekend to catch up. Heck, I have other games I have to play but DUST ends up being the game I play.

I am the same. I have played since 2012 i think and I only have 17 mil but I have seen some that are at my level in 7 months or less. it kind of stinks to see that others are at my level in a fourth the time.

get your core skills to a reasonable level (3 on each) , then start skilling into a suit and weapon that compliment each other(I'e cal assault and rr).
after that you can enter the experimental phase of testing stuff out.

Well we do have warbarges coming up... I Assume there will be a fair amount of Skill points needed for them as they will kinda be mid-end game content..
But we also need other stuff imo... such as
We need an Installations skill tree.
Leveling into operating a Large turret and a Small turret installation(Needed back in game)
Ability to buy off market and fit large turret installations to be called after a set amount of warpoints is earned.
The ability to buy and fit Small turret installations to place and use off of a Primary weapon slot.
The ability to buy Supply depots and Clone reanimation units off the market and fit them, Can call them in, in exchange for a large amount of war-points .... And then score war-points off their operation.
Minmatar and Amarrian turrets and vehicles.
Logi LAV's with a Repair tool "Turret" in the back that repairs shields and later allows for multiple mercenary lock. Logi LAV ftw.
Jet Bikes.
Market skills that allow discounts and NPC buyback increases.... Lvl 1-5 allowing 1-5% discount or buy back bonus.
Core skills right now take nearly 30mil SP+ to get at a competitive level with the average vet. Though there is merit in core skills and how it is currently done.. expanding that gap without an intuitive New player experience crafted for players that are just getting into DUST....
We are just hurting ourselves requesting more core skills at this point.. |

many good ideas, however calling in installations (turrets, depots) could be problematic requiring a *ton* of dev work to be both balanced and non glitched. for example calling in large rail turret on a roof top would be op and by the size of it could crush many good campers (would be funny though).
logi lav would need low ehp to be balanced. devalue'ing the pratical implications but, would be useful given the right scenario.
jet bikes for gods sake yes
30m is an exaggeration i'm setting on 46m sp and i was stomping long before then, but of course all my sp investments was properly spent :). that is why all the skills i listed contributes to survival'bility more than combat'bility asides from movement speed which contributes too strafing and back peddling which is why i stated 0.5% per level.

Vet's stomp with a bran new character.... in pubs.
Go up against vet's in competition and get wrecked without your cores up... or atleast run as an underdog.
Turrets already drop in on map... Just on a pre designed location... We already have call in mechanics for vehicles and limitations on where.
Sandbox is a sandbox... WHere a player calls in a turret is balanced enough in a sandbox aslong as it fits the pre designed guidlines..
Turrets should be checkpoints to maps and REQUIRE mercenaries to use vehicles to fully attack a fortified position.
LAV's aren't weak enough for you? :( If a vehicles job is to keep mercenaries are other vehicles alive... It should require a vehicle to counter it or significant sacrifices in infantry power to AV aspirations.
All the core skills do is give you more of a chance of survivability... Power grid and CPU enhancements allow you to fit more defense and offense... Base scannign skills allow you more intel...Biotics allow you to move faster and have more stamina.. Better equipment etc...
That is what core skills do... New players can get offensive skills pretty quick it takes them forever to level into survivability...
Think how many SP you have in weapons and suits... The average vet is still around 50m SP ..Most people have 1-2 proto suits rarely a 3rd... and a few guns leveled.. making only 12-15ish m SP.
Where does all the other SP go do you think? |

It would be great to rig/modify our drop suits like Eve pilots can rig their ship to increase an attribute slightly for an edge. This would introduce a whole new skill tree.
Perhaps, there should be a whole new idea behind salvaging. Make it interactive. I'm getting this idea from eve. Skill into a salvaging class with some transport space. At the end of the battle report, there would be an option to go back to the battlefield to salvage the dead bodies. Introduce a scanning device to detect where people have died around you. Depending on the type of drop suit/vehicle, and skill wise, it can take a bit of time to salvage. Make it a race to salvage the most. I'm sure I can keep going with the idea, but this can also add a whole new skill tree to spec into and add something new to the game. But then again, this could be the lamest idea haha.
Bounties on players? Maybe not skill based but more like the option to give a certain amount of isk for someone to kill that player next after that bounty has been placed.... I'm sure there could be a way to make it work somehow.
Leadership skills? When being a squad leader, you can give certain passive skills to your squad at a proximity around you.

@ bethny
details about your installation proposal, you had not mentioned if it had same protocol as vehicles then yes you could call them in anywhere and it not be a problem, but oh wait i forgot i can call a tank in on almost any roof......... but the installation would have x2 ehp thus why it would require new protocols -_-.
small turrets...............................,,,,,have you ever used small rail? and your saying i would be able to run and gun with one?!?
my methana can tank close to 5000 ehp more than most tanks so YES the logi lav would need a lower ehp if not you would have 2 man murder taxis dominating the map.
hmm your forgetting armor and shield upgrades that is core upgrades and do contribute to combat'bility
lvl 5 cal scout lvl 5 cal assault lvl 4 cal logi lvl 5 min sentinel lvl 5 hmg, 5 lvl 5 rr, 5 lvl 5 sg, p 5 lvl 5 scr, p 5 lvl 5 nk, p 5 lvl 5 scp, p 5 grenaded lvl 5
hmmm oh look my cores are maxed too with roughly 8m in vehicles again i say 30m is an exaggeration
if you shoot me from the redline i will ensure your death will be a swift one
