So, on the roadmap, there was a tab in the backlog that said Salvager Role. When I saw this, I skipped for joy as Salvaging is what I do in EVE. This was accentuated by the simple crafting and simple trading tabs also floating around on the board.
Given that the current scene of salvage and the stuff in Rattati's Salvage Sticky, is pretty lacklustre, I started thinking about how this whole Salvager Role would play out and I have formulated a plan.
The Premise: Ever killed a proto suit and thought to yourself: "Damn, what a waste of Proto; why can't I have that?" Well, the idea is that when you fell a foe, you may salvage from his cold, dead, corpse and acquire certain goodies, from the mods on their suit, to assorted scrap used for crafting and selling etc. Better modules are harder to salvage either requiring a certain skill threshold, or just a lower percent chance to get. Whole Dropsuits can not be salvaged. Only the weapons and modules may be salvaged from a fit. However, the kind of Dropsuit determines the kind of assorted scrap you get. (Probably similar to the components to make the suit, if crafting ends up working that way)
The Tools The Salvager is a piece of fitting requirement heavy equipment. It operates like a repair tool, but you aim it at dead guys instead. You get a little progress bar (Like the hacking one), if it fills up before the dude's body disappears, you get phat loots. You are completely vulnerable while salvaging and will be killed. RISK VS. REWARD DUDES.
Variants may include: Fast: Faster Salvage so you can salvage before the body disappears, but gets less loots. Effiecient: More Loots, Less Speed. Compact: Less Fitting, Less Speed, Less Loots.
The Skills: Add a salvaging skill tree in dropsuit upgrades somewhere, preferably off of Core Upgrades. Salvaging: Allows use of Salvagers at 1 then ADV at 3 etc. Probably add some bonuses in there as well. Salvager Efficiency: MOAR LOOTS Salvager Speed: GOTTA GO FAST Salvager Fitting: IT FITS IN THERE NOW,HUN. ( -í-¦ -£-û -í-¦)
There are probably a lot of kinks in here now, but I'm open to criticism and comments so feel free to discuss.

Yes, we need more people standing around looking at the ground. More easy kills please!
But seriously, no. Salvaging should be a passive thing, like a skill the gives you a better chance at salvaging what you've killed at the end of a battle. It shouldn't be an active thing, especially requiring an equipment because it's unfair to heavies and gimps most other suits.
Dust is there! I was real!
Dear diary, Rattati senpai noticed me today~

I kinda know where you are coming from... from an FPS point of view during match salvaging is a terrible idea, it leaves people vulnerable and you'd have ninjas who hid and did nothing to contribute and nicked everyone's salvage.... but personally i would like to see something in game that actually feels like i'm picking something up rather than just being told you got a,b and f items just seems kinda random and empty to me... i mean FPS years ago had you able to pick up a weapon from someone you had just killed and add it to your inventory. Something like this would be acceptable in my eyes and would promote small skirmishes as people from both teams try and grab that officer weapon or whatever, or that container or experimental weapon components.
The mmo loving side of me wants to see something like a 5 minute period after victory where the winners get to loot the field scanning for loot that was thrown clear in vehicle explosions and weapons left lying about by disintegrating clones. You could also have a new game mode in battle finder 'salvage' where you can search for these sessions and try to steal the salvage or harass people.
Longterm I would like to see something more open world to this aspect.
Anyone getting annoyed by reading of the above post should consider the following.

I see where you are coming from, I seriously do. I HATE that most things can be passively acquired in this game. SP? Passive Salvage? Passive ISK? Passive if you afk a match, or have access to a corp wallet.
I'd just like an opportunity to go and actually get something useful for once.
The whole idea about having the salvager as a piece of equipment is so that it gimps suits. You can't expect to maintain combat superiority AND be able to profit from it. Heavies? Yeah, well, it's just one demographic.
