Most suits are armor tanked, and armor tanked suits have more armor than shield tanked suits have shields, so overall a percentage increase to armor damage is much more valuable than the same percentage increase to shield damage, so yes, if you trade -5% shield dmg for +5% armor damage, in the current meta of the game its a substantial buff.
Not that I mind, I've been advocating tightening the profile of the scrambler rifle for a while, because that weapon is prohibitively overpowered against shield tankers. Nobody seems to care though. Its like people think having a weapon that is effective at all ranges up to ~90ish meters that can wipe out any amount of shields in the game in under a second is fair.
TTK is pretty quick in this game but the scrambler rifle against shield suits is just bullshit quick. And dont tell me any other rifle is even comparable, they require consistant dps over a couple of seconds or more to take someone down, and they cant deliver the majority of that damage in the first half second of a fight, they are forced to deliver it over time which gives people time to react and take cover. |

Well, I dont think shields and armor are balanced against each other, theres lots of reasons like the laser weapons have absurd profiles, regen not really being better for shields after the armor rep buff, existence of triage hives and rep tools dramatically favor armor tank, and so forth, but thats another thread.
For these scrambler threads I just like to mention that I'd rather not have rifle weapons in the game that can insta wipe shields in under half a second with high precision, good long range performance, good CQC performance, good effective ranges, and with no real drawback. ;d

I just dont think the drawbacks are special, rail rifles have worse drawbacks these days with the kick/charge mechanic changes, and it takes more skill to time bursts to maximize dps on combat rifles than to just not shoot more than 18 shots, and you dont have to use it on the slowest suit in the game, which isnt the amar assault anyway.

If the draw backs aren't balance enough for the weapon why would the weapon even exist vesta? and nooooooo rail rifle and combat rifle are aloooot easier to use lmfao cant believe you said that.....Idk if I wanna squad with you after hearing that you run minassault all day, you clearly said in squad you dislike ScR for that same reason....
Thats not why I dont like the SCR. I don't like the SCR because its rediculously overpowered against certain suits, the end effect being very strong incentives to players to brick armor tank.
I've said a million times the thing is cruddy against armor tanked players, and super strong against shield only tanked suits and low hp suits (either new players or scouts). I dont really want it nerfed, I want it rebalanced so that its not a huge 3 part epic to kill a heavy and not incredibly trivial to kill non-tanked or shield based suits. Thats why I suggest stuff like tightening up the damage profile instead of outright nerfing its damage. I'd also like to see the charge shot cost more in terms of heat (coming close to overheat and maybe leaving enough heat for a few, ~3-4, follow up shots), since the alpha damage + follow up shots again make it trivial to kill low HP/shield tanked players.
I have this weapon skilled up more than any of my other weapons, and its my favorite weapon. The only reason I dont use it now is because Im obsessed with my minmitar assault suit and want it to be pure minmitar sexytime.
And the RR kick/charge and combat rifle timing IS harder to deal with than the overheat, which is just a matter of muscle memory once you've used it long enough.
