Are reload and turning speed based on the skills of the person fitting the vehicle, the pilot, or the person using the turret?

I was curious about this too.... if you jump into someone's LAV who doesn't have any skill, but you do, is the bonus applied to you? Likewise if you're the driver of an LAV and have the skill and it's your LAV that you called in, does a turret gunner inherit the skill?

From the ADS testing in skill-stacking, it could be everyone sitting in a turret/similar turret (small or large). Other passangers' not on turrets do not count.

Hello there, Arcadiia! And btw, you have a cool character name. (So many players hop on Dust from the other fps games, that they impassively create a "handle" or "call sign" name for themselves, not realizing the EVE-Dust-514 wants you to create an imaginary "person" name, something that sounds like an actual person in a story---so it's always nice to see some really solid New Eden names)
Reloading, Turning, (and I suspect AMMO too, but have not confirmed that one) Skills are based on PERCENTAGE increases, which is pretty advantageous because it works like this:
I am the vehicle driver (sometimes a gunner, but mostly driver). I want my turrets to rotate quickly and reload quickly, so I use my SP to add 20% to my turrets' rotation and 10% to their reload speed.
But I meet a player in the Chat Channels who has boosted her turrets to have 40% faster rotation and 30% faster reload. She is GREAT at turret aiming, but lousy at operating her dropship. I am better at Dropship driving than she is. So I let her be my gunner. INSTANTLY, my turrets operate with a total 60% faster rotation speed, and 40% quicker reload---but only when SHE is working as my gunner. The percentage bonuses are ADDED--BOTH players' skill levels are stacked. (This is also a shrewd decision for me, because as long as she is my gunner, she saves me from having to spend any more of my own SP to skill up to level-4 or 5 on those rotation/reload skill tiers. Great Savings -equals- Happy SP Shopper! And all done without any magazine coupons! )
Seriously, this is another example of why it is VERY advantageous to make connections with some choice players whom you get along well with, and trust, and have special skills that can augment your equipment or vehicles when you buddy-up with those players. It's not so much that you NEED to squad or need to join corps all the time---it's simply that you should always be aware of any individual opportunities to make some war-pals you have fun pairing up with as you play the game more and more.
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...

Thank you, Celesta! Just the informative answer I was looking for :)
And thank you for the compliment on the name! I'm actually recognized as Kain in many gaming communities, as I have used it as the last name for almost all of my characters for nearly twenty years. This started with the most well recognized of them, Morbeus Kain. Arcadius was an old D&D character of mine, and this character was started with the intention of being a minja. I tend to make my sneaky characters female. Hence the play on the name.

The percentage bonuses are ADDED--BOTH players' skill levels are stacked. That was a solid explanation, with the small addition that the bonus application is multiplicative, not additive. That means if you receive a 20% bonus to rotation speed (factor 1.2) and your gunner receives a 40% bonus (factor 1.4) the combined bonus is 1.2 * 1.4 = 1.68, in other terms 68%.
The difference between the two methods is generally rather small, but can be noticeable in some cases. For example two 50% reductions to something don't add up to -100% but rather to 0.5 * 0.5 = 0.25 = 25%. |
