I haven't seen a thread in a while, but the other weapon categories all have 5+ weapons yet heavy is 2. I would propose that we add 2 more heavy weapons and racially categorize the weapons.
HMG - CQC - Solid Rounds - Effective against armor - Sounds like a Min weapon Forge Gun - Long Range - Anti Vehicle - Precision based - Sounds Gallente
Proposed - Amarr - Precision - Medium ranged - Laser - Heat sensitive -
Multi barreled laser - Strap three laser rifles together and keep the heat on it where it is today. Make the turn radius difficult while shooting (Like the forge gun) and have it cause damage from over heating (Double edged sword). This would give the heavy a low recoil precision weapon with a draw back, otherwise we will see these on tons of Min heavies sprinting around at med range.
Particle Accelerator - This would be a weapon that shoots quickly but takes 1-2 seconds before the area shot explodes. This would be similar to a high damage mass driver but with a second or 2 delay this would make the gun tricky to handle, but great for groups. You fire and after 2 seconds the ground explodes like 3 mass driver shots converged. I see this as a reverse of the forge gun except no charge time because the damage impact has a stall.
Proposed - Caldari - Long Range - Spin up time then multiple shots - Hybrid - The forge gun might go under this section. I was thinking it was more like a Plasma Cannon.
Shoulder mounted rail or ion machine gun. This would sit on the shoulder of the heavy and greatly reduce their turn speed (Maybe even give them a blind spot on one side of their suit). The plus side is that it would do a lot of damage at a longer range. It would be a long range weapon so I would expect at least the ACOG sighting on the RR. Then this would would be great for defense, but terrible for offense or CQC. I would also force for the gun to be ADS during the spin up or the gun uncharges. I see the role of this to be holding the enemy at a distance. The heavy should be anchored in place with this weapon though and not have any mobility to prevent using this as a walking assault weapon with another heavy.
New ideas you think of for other options to flush out the heavy weapons section. I know some people started some threads but since the Burst HMG nerf, this hasn't been raised.

Forge gun is actually a caldari weapon. We are missing the amarr and Gallente heavy weapons.
right now I actually have a amarr heavy weapon proposed in my chromosome resurrection spreadsheet here.
it's under the last tab in the back end of the spreadsheet under theorycrafting under the name "Scrambler Lance"
tell me what you think.

An Amarr heavy weapon would be laser-based, and I think the best way to hold it would be the way we hold forge guns, and it would fire a high-powered AV beam with 200-250m range.
The only thing is we need to be sure to make the gun ineffective at 2 ranges (close, medium, long) ranges need to be considered. You need a positive and negative otherwise the gun will be put on the nerf shelf right away and get flamed.
Simply the slowness of the heavy is not enough of a deterrent today so we don't want the weapons to drive heavy stat changes. Think about approaching a city map with 3 heavies carrying the weapons we create. If there is no hope for that charge, then we may be proposing too strong of a weapon. Just my take on preventing OP.

I always wondered why there are no missiles. (or rather few missiles) So how about the unreal tournament redeemer. A mini-nuke you guide (1st person from rocket) yourself after it's shot.
To make it counterable by infantry, have it a big-sized rocket which physically could be shot down mid-flight. |

Sounds interesting. I just wonder about the application. (Would this be an anti-sniper weapon or AV or both?) It couldn't have a massive splash or it would probably be OP for sieging a point. Maybe give it clunky controls? I would see this as a long range weapon, so the ammo supply should be low. Just spitballing here.

Another idea I had from COD:BO2 last night was maybe a laser gun that started with doing no dmg then it progressively more dmg. So it starts off as a tickle then melts armor after a few seconds of continuous focus. This would make running and hiding from it paramount. Once the beam was off you, then you pop back out and explain how interrupted fire makes his weapon effectively perform like a sidearm. This gun could be made as a heavy and vehicle killer. Slow targets that can't escape the immediate area would be easily taken down by this weapon and tight turn areas or fast suits would make this gun less effective. It would rule in an open field but in a building or city map, it would suck.

Rapid Assault Forge Gun
fires rounds in rapid succession. pull the trigger and expend the clip slowly over time. these rounds charge and fire at 1 sec intervals for about 1200 damage over 6 secs and a clip size of 15-20 (maybe more). it would also have a shorter range similar to that of the hmg. this allows them to av but also be effective as ap weapon aswell (get some of those forge snipers on the ground)
High Caliber Machine Gun (HCMG)
fires high caliber explosive rounds which detonate on impact with heavy armor (vehicles). this weapon has a large rate of fire but with a large spread, this should limit its effectiveness against soft targets. its range should be limited to cqc with vehicles where other av would be less effective. this weapons does basic kinetic damage to soft targets but on contact with vehicles does explosive damage with no blast radius

this fits on the heavies back as missile pods on either shoulder. the heavy with this fit carries a targeting device in his hand which sends targeting data to the missile pods. these missiles when fired shoot up into the air and dependant on version (ap/av) carpet bomb the target area with proximity devices which detonate on contact with enemy or after a set period of time. the ultimate area denial but ultimately less effective than the direct heavy weapons
Mortar
this is a short to mid range low accuracy weapon able to fire either smoke or HE rounds with varying accuracy dependant on range. you can only carry 1 version or the other so making this a support weapon in either damage or defence. the heavy can run with this out much like players can run with equipment but when deployed immobilises the user and gives them a 45 degree arc and a range of 100-200m or a 90 degree arc and a range of 50 -100m. the player can then use this to lay down cover or suppressing fire onto any open area. smoke would detonate as a 10m diameter smoke screen and HE would be approx 5m. diameter would vary with level of weapon and skills and the inaccuracy would spread the rounds over a small area for coverage.
Bomb's
only a heavy can carry these. they are large explosives which are placed and armed. they will detonate on a timed basis activated remotely. they can only be disarmed through hacking. place this device and activate the timer and wait for the boom. this has a large blast radius. these are indiscriminate and will kill anyone/thing friend or foe.
Duel Wield Heavy Pistols
very short range variants of some of the current pistol types. these pistols have similar damage as current ones but extra large clip size and are duel wielded.
Heavy Laser Cannon
single shot, charge and release weapon. fires a single beam at the target causing massive damage. different versions increase the beams duration from 1sec to 1.5sec at proto. damage is the same through all versions per sec so a gradual increase as the level goes up due to beam duration.
Juggernaut Shield & Pistol
this weapon is 2 items in 1. its a full body shield with a small slot to shoot through with the accompanying pistol. this is an always up front facing shield unless sprinting and is armor based. due to its high cpu/pg requirement it reduces suit tank fitting potential so as not to be op. to fit it in its role this item is used to protect troop advancement and it does it as follows. fitting this weapon adds an ability in the equipment wheel of the heavy that carries it. this ability extends a shield out to the side of the juggernaut shield for a period of time dependant on level and skill which cannot be depleted. the main armor shield howether can be depleted but in this mode has a damage reduction to it. the pistol is stowed during this mode. the heavy can now protect player advancement absorbing most incoming fire. he protects the squad and the squad protects him
Heavy Flux Field Generator
this device emits a field of energy creating a dome around the user and his allies which disrupts enemy equipment. it does not destroy the device, only deactivate it. this aids his allies in capturing points and close defence from cloaking and RE. the user cannot attack while the device is active. instead he/she receives WP for every second a piece of enemy equipment is deactivated and guardian points for every cloaked player killed after passing through the field.

It's not so much that they aren't powerful in their own way..... its that they are woefully inappropriate for the role of a tanks main gun.
Also more to the point for every AV weapon I expect to see a vehicle mounted counterpart.

There would be charge up time, say 4 seconds, but a increase in damage over Forge levels compensated by a shorter range (maybe 50M less, so 250M range)
Splash would be about the same as current AFG level; 1.5-2m splash, damage around 180 for advanced, 200 for proto.

Can I get you to replace the Large Blaster with this gun? I've wanted something like this too for a very long time.

Obviously that'd mean including an overheat mechanism but yeah, would certainly give HAVs something of a valid option vs Shield Tank fits. Small variants too.

My personal favorite are the multi missile launcher and the mortar. I don't know about smoke because the mechanic doesn't exist in Dust today.
I see the mortar similar to the mortar in the Wolfenstein FPS spin off - Frontline Assault. You had a map view you could pull up and where you stuck showed on that map. You needed other classes to point out where to drop the mortar shells (scans would work well for this) and then you could see your impact based on the number. Also you wouldn't carry a ton of ammo, so you should need a logi to nanahive you to keep you firing. It is 1 shell at a time. The range would need to be lower than you think though because we don't want people mortaring from the redline onto the objectives.
The missile launcher sounds good for the carpet bomb feature. I would expect that on the DS or tank first then expand to a missile variant for the heavies. I like the idea of the missile launcher being an arcing device for range. Then they would be useless CQC but awesome on flat terrain. No lock on, you just highlight targets and they track like slow moving swarms that dmg everything.
I like all the responses to this thread because I think if we get heavy weapons into the 2015 it would probably be the next expansion because they did just finish off the sidearms and the light weapons.
The bomb would be cool for a game mode. If they build the ship maps that have been suggested, we could use it as a breaching mode.

The Swarm Launcher model could be used to make a rocket launcher (heavy version of the Flaylock pistol). Make it very high damage, low splash (to prevent it from being OP against Infantry), and single shot like the Plasma Cannon. It would be direct fire (no arc) since it is self-propelled.
Also, how about the Heavy Plasma Cannon simply being a 3 shot version of the Light Plasma Cannon?
Hand/Eye coordination cannot be taught. For everything else there is the Learning Coalition.
