I haven't seen a thread in a while, but the other weapon categories all have 5+ weapons yet heavy is 2. I would propose that we add 2 more heavy weapons and racially categorize the weapons.
HMG - CQC - Solid Rounds - Effective against armor - Sounds like a Min weapon Forge Gun - Long Range - Anti Vehicle - Precision based - Sounds Gallente
Proposed - Amarr - Precision - Medium ranged - Laser - Heat sensitive -
Multi barreled laser - Strap three laser rifles together and keep the heat on it where it is today. Make the turn radius difficult while shooting (Like the forge gun) and have it cause damage from over heating (Double edged sword). This would give the heavy a low recoil precision weapon with a draw back, otherwise we will see these on tons of Min heavies sprinting around at med range.
Particle Accelerator - This would be a weapon that shoots quickly but takes 1-2 seconds before the area shot explodes. This would be similar to a high damage mass driver but with a second or 2 delay this would make the gun tricky to handle, but great for groups. You fire and after 2 seconds the ground explodes like 3 mass driver shots converged. I see this as a reverse of the forge gun except no charge time because the damage impact has a stall.
Proposed - Caldari - Long Range - Spin up time then multiple shots - Hybrid - The forge gun might go under this section. I was thinking it was more like a Plasma Cannon.
Shoulder mounted rail or ion machine gun. This would sit on the shoulder of the heavy and greatly reduce their turn speed (Maybe even give them a blind spot on one side of their suit). The plus side is that it would do a lot of damage at a longer range. It would be a long range weapon so I would expect at least the ACOG sighting on the RR. Then this would would be great for defense, but terrible for offense or CQC. I would also force for the gun to be ADS during the spin up or the gun uncharges. I see the role of this to be holding the enemy at a distance. The heavy should be anchored in place with this weapon though and not have any mobility to prevent using this as a walking assault weapon with another heavy.
New ideas you think of for other options to flush out the heavy weapons section. I know some people started some threads but since the Burst HMG nerf, this hasn't been raised.

The only thing is we need to be sure to make the gun ineffective at 2 ranges (close, medium, long) ranges need to be considered. You need a positive and negative otherwise the gun will be put on the nerf shelf right away and get flamed.
Simply the slowness of the heavy is not enough of a deterrent today so we don't want the weapons to drive heavy stat changes. Think about approaching a city map with 3 heavies carrying the weapons we create. If there is no hope for that charge, then we may be proposing too strong of a weapon. Just my take on preventing OP.

Sounds interesting. I just wonder about the application. (Would this be an anti-sniper weapon or AV or both?) It couldn't have a massive splash or it would probably be OP for sieging a point. Maybe give it clunky controls? I would see this as a long range weapon, so the ammo supply should be low. Just spitballing here.

Another idea I had from COD:BO2 last night was maybe a laser gun that started with doing no dmg then it progressively more dmg. So it starts off as a tickle then melts armor after a few seconds of continuous focus. This would make running and hiding from it paramount. Once the beam was off you, then you pop back out and explain how interrupted fire makes his weapon effectively perform like a sidearm. This gun could be made as a heavy and vehicle killer. Slow targets that can't escape the immediate area would be easily taken down by this weapon and tight turn areas or fast suits would make this gun less effective. It would rule in an open field but in a building or city map, it would suck.

My personal favorite are the multi missile launcher and the mortar. I don't know about smoke because the mechanic doesn't exist in Dust today.
I see the mortar similar to the mortar in the Wolfenstein FPS spin off - Frontline Assault. You had a map view you could pull up and where you stuck showed on that map. You needed other classes to point out where to drop the mortar shells (scans would work well for this) and then you could see your impact based on the number. Also you wouldn't carry a ton of ammo, so you should need a logi to nanahive you to keep you firing. It is 1 shell at a time. The range would need to be lower than you think though because we don't want people mortaring from the redline onto the objectives.
The missile launcher sounds good for the carpet bomb feature. I would expect that on the DS or tank first then expand to a missile variant for the heavies. I like the idea of the missile launcher being an arcing device for range. Then they would be useless CQC but awesome on flat terrain. No lock on, you just highlight targets and they track like slow moving swarms that dmg everything.
I like all the responses to this thread because I think if we get heavy weapons into the 2015 it would probably be the next expansion because they did just finish off the sidearms and the light weapons.
The bomb would be cool for a game mode. If they build the ship maps that have been suggested, we could use it as a breaching mode.
