Seriously, why do they all keep thinking that the Gallente are the armor tanking race?
They have crap stamina bar and regen to aupport being slow andhave lower armor than the Amarr base stats.
Where do they get the idea that Gallente are the armor tanking race? .-.

It's not ship preference. It's race preference.
Even by looking at the hase stats you would know each race's tanking style.
Amarr: have higher base armor. They are the armor tanking race of New Eden.
Gallente: They have the highest base armor repair speed. They are the armor repair tanking race.
Minmatar: Low eHP but high speed. Speed tankers.
Caldari: High base shield stat. So they are the shield race.
Yes, you can completely armor tank a Gallente suit. But you will be outplayed by an Amarr suit.

My amarr only out performs my gal only dual tanked, given my amar weapons are predominantly ranged
