As we all found out at this point, Simple Trading has been bumped back one month to the 1.1 version of the Next Release. But at the same time, Simple Crafting was bumped up one month to 1.1. So this got me wondering. Is this the beginning of the end of the NPC-dominant market?
If you think about it, we already have the base for Simple Crafting implemented into Uprising 1.10. You need two or more materials to produce an item. In the case of the current update, a Strongbox and a Hacked Encryption Key to produce a rare salvage item.
Of course, there is still the open question of what materials we're talking about here for 1.1. As we all know, District Harvesting is in the backlog of things CCP wants to do but is not listed for when it might arrive. So it's not likely that Simple Crafting will be reliant on Districts anytime soon.
My theory (dons the best tinfoil hat in the New Eden cluster) is that CCP might introduce exotic new materials into the game that might appear randomly as salvage or as rewards for Daily Missions. Either that or use current lower-meta items to create higher-meta items. I don't know. I think I may have to adjust my tinfoil hat a bit. One sec.

Ok, so assuming Simple Crafting comes in as indicated on the Trello boards, this will open up practically new careers for players. Right now we see the FW/Daily Mission/Skirmish/Ambush/Domination grinders who work hard for the salvage and their ISK. We'll then see Marketeers who never go into a match ever again and instead make their money buying salvage at wholesale prices and then sell them at marked up price like we see in Eve Online (though not as complex). You'll also see dedicated Industrialists who will likely have connections to wholesalers who can give them materials at bargain prices and then mass produce items needed for the typical grinders.
Did my epic tinfoil hat work?

Eve players like me. I play Dust all the time, but I also do marketing, mining, and manufacturing in Eve Online.

LOL NO! If we're going to make the materials that rare to salvage, you might as well not have Simple Crafting at all to begin with. I have 254 Strongboxes in my inventory but only have about 6 keys from grinding Daily Missions without paying AUR for them. Also, I have yet to get a single key from regular salvage and I have been playing since 1.10.
If skill books would affect it, then I want salvage chance to be far higher than that of the keys. And I mean damn far higher. Hell, make them common like the strong boxes. At least the materials will be useful.
