So as an EVE player I love the fitting system, of course, though I was a bit surprised that there was not a fitting system for guns. Most FPS games allow at least some customization of weapons (Brink's system was fantastic) so I was a bit put off when Dust didn't have that. I understand that may cause issues on various fronts, so can we perhaps get a few more options in the pre-made guns we can buy? Things like ARs with optical scopes, silencers, ect for an additional cost. I know some of the specs for other guns include things like masterkeys and whatnot, so maybe I'm just jumping the gun on a feature thats coming SOON (tm), but I thought Id bring it up at least for discussion. |

I was wondering about this too. Is this just not implemented yet or is it not going to be in the game at all? Kinda weird if not....
EDIT: I can see some things being taken care of with skills (accuracy from skills rather than a fore grip for instance). But what about different sights (shape, zoom level, etc)? |

Well, we already have Modules, so having modules for our modules would be sort of weird.
Perhaps this would be a good opportunity for "rigs" to have a different name while maintaining the EVE theme. Could be a Rig slot above every weapon slot, just for that weapon, and as you have better suits some might even have two rig slots for each weapon etc. |

What about weapons having subsystems like reticles and whatnot. |

If you ever played Jagged Alliance 2, the concept of modules for modules isn't that weird. I could see a "weapon fitting" screen and then you select that weapon in the dropsuit fitting. Would also clean up the AR tree since burst, breach, tactical, and base are more or less just different triggers for the same gun. Rigs work too for things like control or zoom but I don't see how it would justify changing the style of a sight. |

Definitely want customizable scopes, but I doubt things like grips are necessary since we have modules and skills. |

i would'nt mind seeing this feature implemented like how they implemented T3 in eve. gun's are composed of subsystems, that you assemble into a module. though, tbh, I believe that this feature should be reserved for T2 or T3 skill set in Dust.
I.e. Tech 1 : no customization Tech 2 :role/effects Tech 3 : customization via subsystem.
subsystems could include, a base sub, which dictates its role, barrel sub, for range/spread, clip sub for ammo type, scope sub. |

I like this idea a lot. Gives tech II another level of desirability over simply increased stats. |

I think the best way to implement this would be looking to EVE - have 'rigs' for weapons. Rigs apply to all of that type of weapon, BPO or BPC, and make them primarily small changes costing calibration. M0 - M4 have 300 points to work with, T2 have 400. All of which have 3 slots. Let's say you want additional damage, you can press your gun farther for 200 calibration points pushing the damage 10% higher, but at the cost of 5% rate of fire. Changes up play-style, and truly makes the game your 'own'.
In other news, my internship with RIOT games is running out, I can think of no company I'd rather work for than CCP. How you guys doin'? :D |

Scopes, Silencers possibly under barrel nade launchers etc etc defiantly need to be put in the game.
People love customizing things. if all the gun models are gunna be the same at release they atleast have to have the smallest bit of customization! |

It has to be coming, right? Just need more info they are obviously keeping under lock and key. |

its weird but its the only part of the game that not customisable dropsuits, vehicles all customisable
weapons nada? and this is usually where devs start when it comes to customisation in a FPS im hopin to see some sort of module system for weapons where ppl can swap out scopes, barrel, suppressors etc |

The more posts on this thread I read the more I think... Yes, DUST --NEEDS-- this... It would be similar to telling EVE players they have to jump in a ship but can't change the weapons loadout, range, etc... the only thing that will modify their ability to bring combat to the enemy is their skills and implants... doesn't make a lot of sense...
In EVE, your weapon is your spaceship (and we all know how people love their internet spaceships)...
In DUST, your weapon is your rifle/launcher/etc... I totally think that if this is not in the works, it definitely needs to be. |

I like it, I'd love to be able to use specific bullet types (like anti-armour, anti-shield and anti-vehicle). The only trouble I see aside from the obvious balancing issues and MORE UNRESPONSIVE FITTING MENUS OH GOD is that it might make it too easy to create effective counters while only needing to train a single weapon (assault rifle spec. to 5 and go to town?), diminishing the value in training different weapons and experimenting with other builds. |

Not necessarily if you consider that you could always (looking at it purely from a skill perspective here guys, don't flame me too hard for this) make the actual modification of the gun itself a "skill". Meaning you can use more "advanced" modifications as your skill increases. So yes, while you would only "know how to use assault rifles" just like in EVE you "know how to use small missile turrets" and then you special "assault rifle specialization"/"small missile specialization"... you would then need the proper "rigging" skill or something similar to that effect "small arms weapon modification" or something similar?
I think the brilliant part of this idea is that (like rigs and such in EVE) it actually opens up a lot more avenues of "builds" without needing to necessarily add a lot more hard-coded "roles" into the game. Rather than saying: "We need more variation in the assault rifles on the market, let's make a Blood Raiders-themed one today and sell it for Aurum", they could sell "paint packs" that would give your gun a bitchin' "skin" to it, but it would still be your custom-gun that shoots slow, has high accuracy, and medium damage. The next guy over could have a gun that looks the same bug shoots fast, is not very accurate, but does high damage... etc... |

I definitely think it's a great idea, but I wouldn't argue that it's entirely necessary.
This isn't the first current-gen shooter without customisable guns. And it's a LOT more customisable overall than a lot of games, where guns are the ONLY customisation. As I said though, it makes sense to include this, even if they only do so with a few minor tweaks to the weapon classes.
I can see a carry-over of EVE's rigging system as an option, or a more FPS-styled custom fitting system for guns. |

The underbarrel weapons could be instead of a sidearm weapon and grenades. There could be just different types of weapons and you choose the ammo. For a launcher there could be normal grenades, smoke grenades, emp grenades, dazzle grenades etc.. Or there could be flame throwers, nanite prayers which damage them ongoing, smoke sprayer etc.. The advantages would be that you change quicker, you have a wider choice and grenades detonate always. So you can fit a grenade launcher under your weapon and you have also as gunner a moderate weapon against vehicles. |

Sorry if I say this but we already discussed it here and we where pretty prolific as well. We spent weeks discussing so please add there.
By the way customization will take months to become a reality because ATM isn't here so it won't appear until 2013 or even later. |
