Obligatory post about getting good, noobs, and no skill FoTM scrubs.
With that out of the way... There really isn't any solid FoTM combos at the moment. Heavies are still one of the most common suit choices, but recent nerfs have lowered their effectiveness to levels that can be dealt with easily... unless they're really good and have logi support. Most of the weapons have taken hits recently as well, whether that be in damage, recoil or effective range, those things that used to be defined as OP aren't so much anymore.
If you really want to get better at the game, it helps to run crappy gear. It might not seem like it at first glance, but having low health/speed/DPS really helps in the long run once you get used to it. You learn to survive, when to avoid fights and when to engage, as well as managing limited resources and I'd go so far as to say even boosting your reaction time. Using the best gear tends to have the effect of making you feel like you're invincible, that no one can possibly harm you, and the next thing you know, you're staring at the death screen with your jaw dropping as you see a militia suit managed to kill you.
I really just recommend trying to enjoy the game over chasing the best gear... unless that's what you enjoy of course, but it's usually more fun to be creative and try odd fittings in Dust than it is to simply run the best gear over and over and over again in the hopes that you'll become more skilled or score better with it.
Buuuut... that doesn't answer the question, does it...
I'd probably rank some of the best suits at the moment as the Caldari Scouts and assaults. I know the bonuses on the assault suck and the suit is overlooked, but a vast amount of players on Dust use RR's and CR's, both of which lose damage against shielding. The shield regen is also exceptionally useful. The Minmatar assaults are currently on the rise, their slot layout allows for a massive amount of versatility, from speed fits to scanning suits rivaling scouts, they're quite nice. The Amarr and Gallente sentinels are both in decent spots right now, able to get nearly 2000eHP. With a good logi behind them, they're nearly unkillable without remotes, vehicles, or the quick knifing of said logi~ I'd say the Gal assault is also a wonderful suit choice and one of the few that can easily be used at even basic levels and still be competitive.
As for weapons... RR's are in a decent spot right now. The charge up time is rough in close range, but you're not supposed to be in CQC with them now, are you? HMG's are still murderous, but the recent increases to heat buildup has made it difficult for crappy heavies to cope. Watching a heavy try to bunny hop about after his HMG overheats is hilarious. Assault rifles have been pushing back lately as well, especially the Breach variant. In terms of sidearms, bolt pistols are still exceptionally deadly if you've got the aim... or Aim Assist, to back them up. The SMG's are still dominant though in most situations, and while it may not get mentioned that often, the Magsec is an amazing little gun, underused, but very good due to the versatility it offers for a sidearm.

That's... probably your problem. XD Dust isn't the best game to be a reckless crazy, though it can be fun at times, judging by your posts, you're not enjoying it all that much. Try being a bit more conservative in your playstyle, don't rush in as much and survey the scene before moving up. No gear, no matter how good, is going to protect you from three or four people whom you blunder upon while they're having their morning tea.
