Damage mods, also try to get as close to the enemy as you can and apply controlled bursts to the enemies head. Don't try to back off of them because if they are using any other weapon then backing away from them is a bad idea, unless it's a shotgun in which case pull out your Ion Pistol. If you aren't already using Kinetic Catalyzers then you should. The Gallente developed them for a reason and that reason was uncompromising close quarters fighting. You close the gap and give the enemy everything you have.

For a standard or advanced he should have one kinkat, one armor plate and one reactive plate. You have speed, rep and armor.

Without at least one other person it's useless to flank as an assault. Mercs nowadays don't squad together to run together, to most it's just OB farming and split up right at the start of the match it's frustration losing so many goods suits trying to solo flank. 
Yes, you can. Anyways, I don't just mean cross map flanking, I mean flanking around people who have a territorial advantage.
For example, if you know that someone is camping a door way with a CR, then are you just going to blindly go and run in there? No. You are going to try to find a more optimal entrance.
Or what if someone is across an open field with an RR? Then it is not wise to charge them. It is better to fall back and circle around them. You may possibly even find cover next to him and then fire on him. By using cover in Close quartersyou minimize your profile and make it harder for them to shoot you while you arefree to shoot them without impedance.
