Where the FG at, or have they been replaced with super EZ mode Swarms?
I know- just waiting for Atiim and his sorry ass "swarms still UP" to show up.
BTW- this isn't a nerf/buff thread, this is what I observe.

Forgeguns take skill swarms dont. And that is basically the answer for it. The common scrub does not want to try they just want to point and shot a swarm launcher. And i have a message for those scrubs:
Do not pray for easy lives, pray to be stronger mans.

No, the fact is swarms also probably do more damage. Three swarms from a Min Commando can drop a Soma/ill-fitted Madruagar dead. That's just swarms alone from one person, excluding AV nades, Remotes, random turrets.

Do not pray for easy lives, pray to be stronger mans. Woohoo! I'm not a common scrub! I went Forge first, then realised it's much more fun shooting vehicles, especially ADS/DS, with a Plasma Cannon. Much more skill, gotta account for directional movement, and distance/arc vectors. My kind of fun! Kind of irritating when you get a perfect shot off though, and the round sails right through the passenger hold....

Fg is just like having a big sign above your head saying SHOOT ME
it's ******* worthless and pointless, I hate being killed by ANYBODY whilst I have a 80K proto FG fit, what's the point, it's a waste of ISK.
at least with swarms you can still ******* move! at least with a commando you can actually fight back!
here's another reason, tanks can one shot me whilst I have to stand still and take so many seconds to charge up one out of many shots yet they can kill me with ONE shot,
forges and heavies are a waste of ISK.

Before the bandwidth change alot more lone players used to switch in and out of Forgegun fits, depending on the situation. Now though, even if you are a dedicated forge gunner, its much more difficult getting to a good vantage point and hoping for nanohive refills.
Double swarm commando though, has minor bandwidth, so some equipment can be maintained. It has less disadvantages and much more advantages. Instead of having to position and ambush tanks/ADS, you can just react to them. Go to supply depot, switch auto lock, boom boom boom, switch back to scout/assault/whatever.
I miss forge gunning a little and wish I didnt have to shelve it. But thats the case right now. Ill never use swarms, ever. So for now, only my PLC keeps vehicles at bay. |

BTW- this isn't a nerf/buff thread, this is what I observe. Big reason is skillpoint cost: swarms work on all suit classes and peeps prolly have them trained up already.
Switching to forge AV means a big sentinel/heavy weapon sp investment. I'm guessing for a lot of peeps the commando/swarm combo is a placeholder suit.
Also, in our post bandwidth DUST, switching to sentinel means popping any deployed uplinks. What more important to the team, taking out that DS or retaining the spawn points? I think many peeps compromise by going commando AV.

Many above are correct. It's a number of factors: be it bandwidth preservation, more AI defensive capabilities, more DPS, or more mobility.
Sadly, a lack of balance. The n00b-friendly SL should put out less DPS than the SP-intensive and greater-risk FG. And adjust both to healthy stats as to give competent vehicle pilots a chance, while not completely nullifying AV damage like in 1.7.
Please buff my Magsex. It doesn't hit hard enough...

I love my Min Commando/Swarm combo. Its more of a personal love for guided missiles, I've used them in every FPS that have them. It just so happens that my Commando does Swarms better than anything else so why wouldn't I run it? If that makes me a Scrub then so be it, I've been called worse.
PS. Forges are BADASS & respect the **** outta FG operators.

Thats what I used to think. Until I realized that "jump" is the only movement you can do, and jump-strafing with a loaded breach can you give incredible mobility. Almost better than if you had to do by foot.
Anytime you have some free time, take out a breach FG fit and try it out!

Yeah the PLC packs a nice unexpected sting, especially for a tanker that assumes you just have nades and remotes. |

Forge guns are definitely a lot of fun if you hit something but with strafing and removal of the splash damage from other variants except the assault, it isnt worth it. With poor hit detection I cant kill someone point blank with a breach scrambler pistol and have defaulted to a flaylock, whats more a weapon with zero splash damage that has a longer charge time than the rail rifle and shoots only one round per charge.

I use swarms because I can fit them on a gal scout and be way faster than a fat heavy. Not to mention I can fit REs and a Nanohive or cloak, and get in range fast enough to throw my av nades.

Choosing a sentinel with a forge gun leaves you vulnerable to infantry. Choosing a Commando with a Swarm Launcherplus an anti infantry weapon helps cover two fronts.

Forgeguns outperform swarm launchers cause you can fire them 4 times and they have the same range like a large railgun so you can attack a vehicle much sooner then you can ever with swarms. Espacially rooftop denial to prevent hostile dropships from landing there you will need a forgegun cause once they are in swarm lock on range they will make it to the roof.
Bright is the opposite of dark! Who would have thought of that?!

I used to run a forge gun every time the enemy team was spamming vehicles until bandwidth.
Now if there's a blaster tank wrecking my teammates "wow, sucks for those guys".
They hardly ever bring out AV either. Just keep spawning and dying as the tank parks itself on an objective.
