It wasn't "everyone" but alot of the vet players with a significant misunderstanding of what it was pushed for it because they were hoping it would punish people like me for breaking tradition.
Here are some of the reasons, and then the actual impact:
-Spam: Those who want to still can. Someone playing assault can switch at a supply depot to a proto assault and dump all kinds of equipment, and then switch back to a pro assault with a scanner. The noise coming from the equipment at the underground depot can still be heard in the distance. So a new player cant spam, but a veteran can. Convenient, right? =)
-Heavies: It was predicted that they would all vanish. The writing was on the wall the whole time, but the fact that some logis are now forced to rep a heavy all match means that non only was there no reduction in heavies; the ones that are there are even more reinforced now.
-WP farm: I was gleefully told that my days of being at the top of the EOM screen were over. Slayers, not logis, should be at the top and its about time those truly deserving of the glory got their recognition. Well, I make even more money now, because the bandwidth requirements means I have to do 1 of 2 things now after deploying: Snipe in a proto logi suit, switch to my Chiron BPO. Neither has significant costs. So while my equipment makes WP on rooftops im in a safe area with an expensive suit or in a dangerous area with a zero cost suit.
-Solo players: It was to be the end of the solo logi. Logis apparently belong in squads where they are supposed to spend all their time putting in effort to make someone else get a better kdr. Another thing that the vets said "this is why that has to happen". And, of course, didnt pan out.
-Rooftop uplinks: Was also supposed to be the end of that too. Apparently giving someone limits on how many things they can deploy was supposed to force them to put the links in area much more unsafe, right? Yeah, didnt happen. My highest yield links are on roofs, and the EMP mini barrage misses most of the time. If anything, my links spend more time unopposed, as before there were people dedicated to fighting me for the upper edges. Now, they dont bother because if they get up there and defeat me....then they inherit the hassle of limitations.
^ People with those reasons united against people like me, sure that their collective anger and hate would shut down my creativity, and id be forced to play the game identically to them. There was more spite than thought process and debating that happened. Thats why it went though so quickly with so few questions. Everyone thought there was a jab from them in there, but it was just empty speculation.
So who did win in all this? =) vehicles! Our proxy capabilities have been curtailed to the point of novelty. Forgeguning? Mise as well respec, as there are incredibly few times you can forgegun without compromising the front line you just painstakingly set up. Thats why now in some games you see 5 tanks "racing" eachother and stuff.
Alot of the community had the mentality that "you pick a role and you stick to it". Im looking forward to seeing this mentality spread out to more classes. No more using scout speed and invisibility to get to a depot and switch to a heavy. No more assaults switching to dual swarm commando. In the New Year, these are some changes I intend to push hard for. |
