Cause we live in a age of delusions and the people that live them. Videogames used to be 3 friends playing N64 at your house or a few people who knew eachother spending hours setting up a sever to play an online game together during the late 1990s. So many people my age and older, remember videogaming as a relaxed, laughter inducing fun. For my generation, the best thing about online gaming is i dont have to split my screen anymore! =)
But, alot of the people younger than me....grew up in an age of videogame entitlement. These are kids who think that playing videogames will make them famous. It will make them money. They are going to be the next Fatal1ty or Rapha or win 20,000$ at the IEM. This is more than a game, its a sport, its a life. Their usernames, which took hours to think up, are going to be immortalized forever. ect ect ect.
Alot of kids these days dont realize that...nobody cares. All your puntastic usernames are forgotten after the match. No one finds it cool or impressive that you are "the biggest 420 stoner ever". No one finishes the game and says "wow! that guy who killed me 10 times is my hero!". Chicks wont say "i only go out with guys that have a kdr of 2.50 and above". Nothing will ever happen or mean anything from videogame playing here.
It is infact, just a game. So the next time you want to start yelling in your mic "OMG WTF THIS GUY TURNS AROUND AND KILLS ME IN TWO SHOTS AFTER I SHOT HIM 10 TIMES FKN LAG BS MAN WTF IM TIRED OF THIS FKN BLUBERY NOOB MAN"......just think how that would sound yelling that out while playing Monopoly with your family.
When Dust becomes more than a game, its time to quit. |

CharacterNameWasTaken wrote:Right because who plays the super bowl to win or baseball to win its just a game so who cares? You sound like one of those moms that complains that there shouldnt be winners or losers in a game because your kid lost. CCP add in participation trophies for these types of people.
Your comment is a perfect example of what im describing. Lets compare, shall we?
Superbowl:
-48 years running -Last edition in person attendance: 85,000 -Last edition TV viewing audience: 167 million people worldwide -Average Superbowl game pay check: (winner: 80,000$. Loser: 43,000$) -Cost of 30 second commercial: 4 million $$$ -Approximate profit generated: 69 million$
Ok, so lets compare that to the videogame you play and think is comparable to the largest annual sporting event in the world:
Dust 514:
-2 years running -In person attendance: 1 player, sometimes a friend watching -Tv viewing audience: Max 16 players per game -Average game paycheck: 200,000ISK (USD worth = $0.) -Cost of 30 second commerical: not applicable -Approximate profit generated: (Ask CCP how much Dust costs them a year to run and maintain)
So then, still think that your efforts and accomplishments are worthy to comparison of a elite sporting event? This what I mean by "delusions of grandeur". You are a teenager with a videogame controller. You are not a millionaire NFL player with a team contract and sponsorship deals on the line. Winning or losing in the superbowl is a question of winning or losing millions of dollars. Winning or losing in Dust is a matter of how your pride feels when you see the numbers on the end of match screen.
So yeah, this is just game. I repeat what I said; If Dust is 'more than a game", quit and seek mental health treatment. its a game, a videogame, and its primary targeted use is for fun and recreational purposes.
