I don't know it's something about it that feels incomplete. I mean, I think of these things as you tanked transport/cargo aircraft. It should be able to go into a heavy fire area, either by hovering over or landing at the location, be able to provide cover for teammates with the 2 gunners, and land (or hover) to allow mercy back in to go to the next location.
It does a good job at transporting, but the fire power/cover, agility, and hp just doesn't "feel" right. Who's with me?
I feel that Dropships need their speed and maneuverability improved as well as it behaves when flying. It should be very responsive.
I also feel like it needs extra hp and a way to counter av without making it op. Now, the last time I used the standard ones was when they got the hp buff. So I don't know exactly how they are now but I have an idea.
Currently, dropships can avoid all av weapons by staying out of sight of them. It needs something to tackle av to a certain level.
Would a higher regen be good? Or a module that repairs your armor actively for a few secs while taking damage. Something that will keep it alive while being attacked by more than one swarmer. A hardener + active repairer could work as it would greatly reduse the amount damage taken while waiting for teammates. Not that that's how people use them, but I feel that that should be a standard use for them. It should be able to handle that at the minimum.
Now, fire power. first of all, it's annoying to get shot out of a LAV/dropship gunner seat. It's almost unavoidable unless you are a heavy or are tanked. I had proposed long ago that gunner seats (only dropships and LAVs) get some sort of shield around the gunner that has bonuses to weapons. That will greatly improve gunners.
Secondly, the way turrets move with the vehicle is awkward. The turret should move WITH the vehicle, not be independent and always aim where the gunner is facing. The turret should be able to flow with the vehicle. This will greaty improve accuracy and stability as the gunner won't have to keep adjusting every time the dropship/lav moves.
With this, I feel that dropships will provide a more enjoyable and enhanced aerial experience, and will help the team with difficult tasks such as infiltrating areas under heavy fire.
Who agrees?

The thing is, Normal dropships are essentially flying tanks without the large turret. They stack the average ehp of a gunlogi or madrugar, are pretty slow moving.
Normal dropships can take as much punishment as either tank. AV can take that as they will. But, while tanks can break line of sight, dropships are for the most part exposed (being in the sky and all). A tank can turn behind a crate, duck under a barn, behind terrain and for the most part be safe from av while on the move. Dropships will always be exposed, and a normal dropship simply isn't fast enough to approach an area underfire and get away.
Some would say, why not just get an Assault Dropship then?

The thing that i agree on is AV.
In the sense that a standard dropship shouldn't do barrel rolls when av hits.
A transport ship has to come into the combat zone to transport troops. Therefore, a good drop is close to the ground ; however, any form of AV will "uppercut" your dropship per se. We all know, a dropship's inertia will be one's demise at this rate.
So, i believe in having a stronger resistance to knockback is the way to go. Also with "dependant" turrets (turns depending on the vehicle) could be a bit better. |
