I like the Gallente commando due to its good regen potential and flexible choice of weapons. Decent shield buffer with main armor tank means its pretty damn flexible in a lot of situations. Decent enough base HP and fantastic native armor reps means you can afford to push this more towards a regen fit which makes it an excellent brawler in close to mid range combat. Additionally Gallente weapons currently have the most variants which means you're going to be able to fit for the widest range of situations. Additionally a Gallmando with a Plasma cannon is amazing at dealing with shield vehicles and can often catch overly confident Gunnlogi's off guard with the high-alpha thermal damage.

Like...If Spkr4dead was selected to develop AV weaponry bad...
Plasma Cannon becomes infinitely easier to use with a Commando. Better reload and having a Light weapon as backup in case you miss is AMAZING. It takes practice, but you can get really good with it, especially with the proper support skills.

Plasma Cannons have the amazing ability to make Proto guys back then kitten up. Aside from a few fits, even a Standard Plasma cannon will 1-shot most suits with a direct hit, regardless if its full proto or not. Fire that into a crowd and you'll see people think twice about charging in case you get lucky with a direct hit.

I tend to run Stamina Mods + Reps on my Gallmando, but Kinkat would work in place of Stamina too. Stay mobile and rep heavily. Gallmando has a lot of potential for rapid recovery between engagements.
Also if you don't like the Plasma Cannon you can always carry a second AR of a different variety. I've also been experimenting using a Shotgun as a secondary, specifically the Breach, with some success. You cant use it like you would on a Scout, but for very tight quarters it packs a punch, especially with the rapid reload allowing you keep the shots flying for prolonged engagements.
