Kay, so, let's take a look at a fit that I have real quick.
Assault M/1-Series
Now that you've seen what the fit looks like, I'd like to give you an idea of just how rambunctious the currency value is when compared between ISK and Aurum; why it's not worth it to utilize real-world purchasing to fund your Dust matches. For the duration of this thread we'll be dealing in 100's because it's easier to get a grasp of the values that way. Let's look at the price points:
100x Fitting in ISK: 4,753,500 100x Fitting in Aurum: 43,500
So, from here we can immediately see that there is about a 100-1 price difference. In fact, in this example, 1 Aurum = 109.28 ISK, round-abouts. The value of aurum spent has a tendency to shift around a lot depending on what you're buying, in particular what tier of item you're buying.
For the record, 43,500 aurum is just a hair more than the $20 aurum package available in game (which gives you 43,000) so we're just going to assume for argument's sake that 100x of this fitting is about $20.
Now, let's consider the cost of a PLEX in Eve Online. Right now, you can get them individually for $19.95 and sell them to another player on the Eve Market for about 810,000,000 ISK, ignoring some of the scams. Considering that, you can go to any player that offers a Dust <-> Eve ISK transfer service and give them the ISK amount in exchange for Dust 514 ISK.
... and boy is there a major freaggin disparity.
In Dust 514, 100x of this particular fit is worth $20. Using a 3rd party ISK exchange service however, you can buy a single PLEX card, sell it for 800m ISK (round-abouts) and then use a Player Run ISK Exchange to exchange it for 128 MILLION in Dust 514.
Which is about 27 times the value or 2,700 of that particular fitting. To put it simply:
100x Fitting (value after exchange): $0.74 100x Fitting (value using Dust 514 aurum): $20.00
While I seriously doubt that there are players only using Aurum for their fittings, you're really better off just giving your money to CCP Iceland and going through an exchange service. Risky? Sure, but let's be honest, when you're spending $20... is 27x the value worth the risk?

Speaking of which, I need to put something about that in my signature. That way everyone knows my opinion matters more than theirs.
