For the love of kittens...
It is getting me killed.
I can drop down in many places take a small hit to shields and kill.
Not now, thanks to training wheels.
Now I drop down what seems 10m and auto damp, and die in an animation that I
USED TO BE ABLE TO AVOID
Can I cancel it?
Can I turn it off?
BOOO!!! for auto dampeners...

Who's bad idea was that?
Has anyone ever seriously complained about having to activate dampeners?

I don't have the link but I know for sure that Rattati had very good intentions "how can we stop this new player from dying 10 seconds after he's spawned?" I don't think it's a feature as necessary as "press start" but nonetheless Rattati has said he's looking to change it.

If they have to die a few times to figure out that the letters on their screen says "PRESS X FOR INERTIAL DAMPENER"
Then so be it...
Or gimme a button in settings to switch it off.
Dust is too VERTICAL of a game to have this as an auto feature.
For now I am just avoiding ANY high ground as getting caught in the animation is too trivial atm...

Really dislike it as well plus it took away the joy of trying to get as close to the ground as possible before activating it.
tbh I died the first time I jumped out bc I didn't know - after that I knew. Players will learn, they realize they're supposed to hit the fire button when an enemy is in the sight too, so they will learn that when jumping from high distances they may need to dampen the fall.
Else perhaps you should also make my weapon autofire once I am clear for a head shot?

When I jumped out of the MCC today there was an RDV below me. I was controlling my drift to avoid it when the Inertial Dampeners suddenly came on and killed me.
In this instance they did not just leave me vulnerable, leading to my death, they literally caused my death.

I'm going to test it out when I get home, but I've seen someone start to cook a grenade then jump with said grenade and in doing so the dampener doesn't activate. Not a real solution, but a possible way to avoid it...

It's incredibly ******** actually.
There was a poor Scout running around with his cloak on, but he had no idea that the dampening sound and animation glitched, and was giving off his position like a police siren.
I'm talking, this dude was running around with that bright-ass dampening animation flaring everywhere like he was Goku or something. He got killed like 12 times, and I'm sure he was like "wtf".

My thoughts on day 1 of Open Beta:
I finally figure out how to enter a battle.
"That giant ship with the blue circle looks like a spawn point."
"Oh cool it has bay doors to jump out of."
"Wait... Do I have a parachute?"
*Reads text and follows instructions*
"Awww yeah, those sound effects were awesome!"
And that's it.
Anecdotal evidence, yes, but this isn't something that takes long to learn.

Here's a simple compromise:
The inertia dampener automatically activates when you are fast enough for an impact to kill you.
Advantages: - You can never accidentally die from lack of knowledge - You can never accidentally die from lag - You can always choose not to activate if that is appropriate (No, suicide is not appropriate )
Disadvantages: - Decreases player agency - May set up wrong expectations of the amount of thinking required in the rest of the game |

Auto reload doesn't work on my SB-39 Rail gun unless I pull the trigger on an empty clip.
Otherwise I run around with no ammo.

I'm beginning to feel like the best way to fix this would be to remove falling damage all together... If the goal is to stop the dying of first time players...
It really doesn't make all that much sense for our suits that are able to absorb dozens of insanely high powered future-gun bullets/lasers to die from falling a few dozen meters, anyway.
Someone's gotta tell the stupids that their ideas are bad, and I guess it's my job...

and yeah the auto damp should be cut immediately

A little update.
I have found several areas that the auto-dampener does not work.
Tried several suits and other areas to be sure nothing was ninja-nerfed.
Also, switching weapons or cooking a grenade then switching weapons does cancel the auto-damp.
A bit tricky to learn for some, but I will try to remember to use it for now on.
The swap/cancel trick is not an out for CCP however as they really do need to add a button to toggle it on or off.
On by default is fine, any nub that actually looks at the settings will figure out it is there.
