Which side arms are lower damage versions of rifles?
I got the AV pack so I have 1000 prototype suits and 500 forge guns, I really don't like using the assault forge gun unless I am in narrow corridor or some crazy tanker is not moving fast
Instead of letting the suits go to waste I thought I would use them and mainly use the side arm because that would give a lot of practice aiming,
I would have a lot of hit points so I live a long time and I do small damage so the reds live a long time, It does not matter if I live or die I mainly want lots of practice |

While many of the sidearms are a whole different weapon on their own, they can be somewhat comparable to some Light weapons in the game:
Scrambler Pistol (Scrambler Rifle): Both do the same damage type, but the difference between them is a charge shot function (the pistol doesn't have one), rate of fire (pistol is slower), overheat mechanic (pistol has a lack of one), and amount of shots (pistol has a much smaller clip size).
SMG (Combat Rifle): Both do the same damage type, very similar rate of fire, and similar clip size. However, the SMG's range is much shorter, and the damage is much less than a Combat Rifle's.
Magsec SMG (Rail Rifle and SMG): This gun mimics the design of the SMG while acting much like its bigger brother, the Rail Rifle. Both have charge-up times, deal the same damage type and have similar clip sizes. Range and damage are once again the factors that divide the Magsec from the Rail Rifle.
Flaylock Pistol (Mass Driver): While you could argue that the Flaylock Pistol is the little brother to the Mass Driver, they both are inherently different from each other. Both deal same damage type, but rate of fire, angle trajectories, time to explode timers, and even the reticule are all very different from each other.
Bolt Pistol (Sniper Rifle? or Rail Rifle): While I'm reluctant to group this weapon with the Sniper Rifle, the Bolt Pistol does share some striking similarities. Both do same damage type, have the highest range in their class, do an amazing amount of alpha damage, and have small clip sizes. Differences would be that with a Sniper Rifle, you have to aim down the sight and crouch to steady your aim, whereas the Bolt Pistol needs none of this setup and can also be reliably hip-fired.
Ion Pistol: Has no weapon similar to it and is the Gallente's unique weapon. It has a very generous clip size for a pistol, an overheat mechanic along with a charge fire mechanic, and deals hybrid blaster damage
That's all I can remember for now; let me know if you have other that you want to know about or any that I missed

In the spirit of these comparisons, I would say the Ion Pistol is the sidearm version of the Assault/Plasma Rifle.
Both are Gallente, hybrid blaster weapon profiles, and the rounds are the same in appearance.

SMG, Bolt Pistol, Breach ScP or even Magsec -- whatever you like best.
If you really want to become skilled with your sidearms, run something like a scout with two of the exact same guns and run it for a while -- you'll become good pretty fast. I prefer a Cal Scout with dual BrScP, but there are a lot of fits that work for this. |

Based on your very tight requirements, the only weapons that will allow you to aim at distant targets like a rifle does, but gives very little damage with single shots, are the following THREE:
Standard or Militia Scrambler pistol. It is slow, but is easy to notice the damage with a single shot--so you can see clearly when you have hit your target.
Bolt Pistol. This is Caldari, so it has a scope on it, and allows you to practice aiming through the Sight/scope to track a running target. With this pistol, you can practice hitting someone at a longer distance, without killing them too fast.
Standard MagSec. This is also Caldari, and can help you aim at a longer distance. But it has a slight delay before firing, so you can practice predicting and aiming AHEAD of your target. Because there is no scope, and the gun tends to kick upward when you hold the trigger too long, it is the most challenging sidearm for you to practice aiming skills with.
Jane, please be warned!! IF youplay Dust with "Aim Assist ON", the Aim Assist will behave differently for each of these 3 guns, and may confuse your practice. It takes time to learn how Aim Assist differs with each sidearm (or you may want to turn Aim Assist OFF). Good Hunting!!
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...
