Ive been thinking of doing a guide full of Advance teambuilding/squad/TeamComp/Map/FC tactics complete with pictures but its going to take a LOT of work since i was planning on detailing map dinamics with color coded spots for positive and negative cover, attack lines, and natural battle line formation.
was just wondering if it was something that was in demand since theres a lot of good stuff ive collected over the years that would help out struggling PC teams, aspiring commanders, and vets alike.
It really won't. What would be useful, right now, would be a straightforward written guide that introduces new FC's to the core strategic ideas that are going to be necessary for PC:
- How you're going to layout your team, basic composition ideas. The new FC should walk away with the guide with a firm understanding that s/he MUST have a rough composition and strategy before the game starts.
- How you need to start a match, with particular emphasis on how to build your team for speed capturing objectives and laying uplinks. Again, and FC should walk away understanding that the beginning 30s of a match must be executed well for your team to have a ghost (the puns!) of a chance of winning.
- The basics about drop ships, uplinks, and other spawning measures. In the current climate it's essential that any aspiring FC understand the crucial nature of spawn points and placement.
- Vehicle basics, including an emphasis on how losing infantry members on-the-ground is a serious cost for calling in a tanker/ADS pilot/whatever.
Essentially what you want is the "here's the bare minimum of what you need to play PC competitively" guide.
I started in on writing a document like this, but didn't find the time to finish it. It seems that I've thrown away all my notes, which is also a bit unfortunate as I'd offer them to anyone who's seriously looking at providing some documentation.
To your question about color coded maps, attack lines, and "natural battle line formation", all of that will be too detailed for anybody who needs documentation to make use of. Only a very small number of people are going to decide that they want to start a team into PC, a smaller number will come to the forums or wherever else and find your documentation, and then an even smaller number will have the mental tenacity to digest that type of guide.
Those FC's who already have a grasp of the tactics and logistics probably aren't going to find something like this particularly useful either. Map colorations and battle lines? If you're already experienced, you know what's going on. If you're not, then there's very little way that you're going to look at material like that and be like: "Oh, the next level." Maybe if we had a glut of middle-tier PC teams looking to step it up to the next level that type of material might be useful. At the present though? The split looks more bimodal: There are a lot of newer teams that don't understand basic Skirmish strategy, such that they'll instantly lose to any team that does. Then there are a core of teams who do understand those strategies, and they're pretty much the "top" teams that are left playing by this point.
If you end up making that introductory guide then I will call you Dust famous at least. ;3

Not playing much of anything, including Dust. Too much intervening real life, too little improvement to Dust. I keep up with the changes, but as much as Rat has proven that he has a good head on his shoulders, there same core problems with the game that have stuck around for the last 1.5 years haven't been touched much.
PC changes are sounding interesting, though it's still a bad sell that they're doing PC before Fac War.
