As the game continues to grow server side mechanics will become more and more complex. Dust should reside on its own server cluster with API interactions handling things like district ownership, chat placement, and orbitals in factional (this is already done through API). The idea of running two games on the same server cluster was a publicity stunt and not necessary for the links to occur.
The exact same thing will need to happen for Legion (IF?) so it would be better for this move to take place now so that the new server can be optimized on its own. |

/c
Situations such as the emergency down time for an Eve fix would say other wise.
The login screen also indicates that it is server tranquility along with the player count of everyone connected to tranquility, tho this could easily be false. |

Chribba spent 90% of his life developing **** for us, trust him. You are wrong.
Hate to say it but he is wrong.
A quick IP look up of the battle server IPs shows other wise.
IP List Tranquility Cluster: 87.237.38.200
Regional Battle Servers : Europe: 5.10.86.104 US: 50.97.153.36 Asia: 216.185.108.171 Australia: 27.50.71.26

Refrence for the above info.
CCP Nullarbor wrote: Your ping to Tranquillity is only relevant for all the things that are not moving + shooting, basically a lot of the stuff that is not latency sensitive like changing your fittings or purchasing from the market. We have battle servers located around the world and try to optimize the placement of players on each to give you the lowest latency while in battle.
You can test your ping to each of the regions with these IPs:
Europe: 5.10.86.104 US: 50.97.153.36 Asia: 216.185.108.171 Australia: 27.50.71.26
I know who Chribba is and love his work. I have actually attempted to reach out to him before to work together on a couple of things.

A separation of servers would not require removal of any links. The links for FW already take place over the CREST api system referenced by Chribba (according to the unveiling video anyway) and could be setup to run between two servers while allowing us to have our own market code etc..

Look at eve server status site.. at the very bottom of dust population of all time. we are at half the population we used to be... This game could double in size and it would not be a problem. The lag is not from the server but from terrible coding.
Never once did I say anything about lag.
Some example problems that do arise:
We are unable to move between systems and Eve markets are based on individual markets in each system meaning one would require a major change for us to have open markets.
Daily downtime hurts player counts. I do not have access to exact data but the number of players that do not return after down time has to be bad. Out of my channels very few of the people that are online when the server goes down come back when the server is back live.
Slowed market transactions. Market transaction limits are a pain when trying to restock a few full suits. These caps are directly tied with Eve.
What it comes down to is currently our growth is tied directly to what Eve resources CCP is willing to dedicate. Since they are obviously busy with Eve one would assume that this commitment is minimal. |
