PC changes coming SOONtm, so I suppose now is the time to discuss it with the community. To get a selection of idea's for CCP to note I want mercs to post replies with interesting PC features, So starting off I will point out a few things that could be looked at..
- Public Raids. Random NPC attacks set on active MH corps (It would need limiting to avoid NPC mass-attacks lol) So 24hrs in Advance of deployment, Concord and Scotty team up to launch an attack on a PC corp. Battle is set on the District timer, and the Raid is launched. and will be displayed in Corp Contracts. - The Attackers (NPC) are intended to be a public team. So a matchmaking/registry for mercs to enlist on the NPC team would need to be created.
So now you have your NPC vs Corp team, but as this is an NPC raid it would not be a normal PC. Ideally I would use a RUSH style gamemode (Battlefield) which in Dust terms would be... Domination, when the Objective is hacked a 2min timer begins, once held for a total of 2 mins the Objective moves to another area and needs to be captured and held as before, a 3rd/4th Objective could be involved. staging clones and winning terms could be, the NPC faction needs to 'sabotage' enemy nulcannons in order to win the battle. (the sabotage causes each objective to fire only one missile once hacked, dealing dmg according to total nulcannons used) So if 4 objectives were involved, each missile once hacked+held 2min, would deal 1/4 MMC dmg. As this is a raid not a take-over, Attackers would have limited clones -100, though with what said.... To make things difficult on Defenders I would have 2 Objectives online at once, so both need defending Giving Attackers the option the vary their assaults into the map.....
By displaying these publicly in 'other contracts' all players could get involved for a taste of PC action.. Albeit in a different gamemode, it will be focused on point defence or assaults which is good practice. - Defending corps would have security levels to warn mercs looking at contracts - Attacking teams would need balancing to avoid slayers whoring the contracts
So here is one proposal if you can add to it/work on it then be my guest. Or add something you think could shake up activity for ALL mercs in New Eden. |

While the game-mode sounds really fun, having random people from PUBs (technically SCs but you get the point) fight against corporations in PC would not end well.

The intention would be for those Publioc players to get involved.. they would need to meet some requirements and maybe progress would be tracked (so some may get restricted from tougher raids)
Offering a Unique gamemode, with a good reward system could be the way to make players want to improve
- Thought.. these Raids happen every weekend, and stats for joining would be based on a mercs weekly stats. So someone not active, or doing poorly would have lower priority to join the Raid. |

Good grief.
Are you genuinely suggesting throwing a pub team against a PC team? Throwing the lambs to the wolves, much?
Sometimes, one just has an overwhelming urge to throw a potato at someone.

Something is needed if we are going to merge the 2 playerbases, balancing it will be a lot of work If a PC corp went uber try-hard Vs a Pub team, it;s going to be messy... that is why it would need some added - difficulty for defenders - reward for attackers Ant the NPC team would need to register before the battle, so it's not Scottys PC team Maybe a vegister/voting sytem where players can be - voted to lead - voted to kick
This is just a suggection at changing up the pace of Dust514, I'm not saying its going to balance the game But what it does, it offers Public players the chance to be involved... which should be the focus |

The problem is that, while yes it gets randoms into PC, people will quickly realize that their team of randoms will *never* win against a trained, fitted, and coordinated Corporate PC team. It won't take long for people to say "Why bother? I have no chance of winning." and go back to Pubs and Facwar. I applaud your intention, but sending people in randomly to be slaughtered is not going to encourage them to get into PC, it'll have the opposite effect.

1. What do you get when you win a PC? 2. How easy is it to win a pub match with a full coordinated team?
This idea is flawed and should DIAF.

Dammit, I knew I missed a good selling point As I said before, the Focus is getting Public involvement, not gold and glory Fights would need to offer an incentive to both sides but I would expect nothing major
On a note of balancing teams and payouts in the proposed Raid mode.. - Each team is assigned a Meta rank or Overall MU. - The total is the average of confirmed players - So we'll say for example, FA's top team is rated (20) a Local army would rate (5) - Payouts are then based on your Rank, in favour of lower rank teams as it is public - There is then incentive for FA to allow some newbs in team, lower rank to (11) get more rewards - The NPC team contains 6 Bluebs, and some mixed corp mercs, which added to (10)
(so it crosses over that if the Local team happens to field strong players their rank is closer to 20)
That would encourage bringing balanced teams, and not looking for the top 16. This is just to get idea's rolling, CHANGE what we have and put it to good use.
You guys suck, I post a thread saying What If and the critics jump in |

It's not intended to be 'Randoms' for the most part, squads could join, it just allows randoms to be involved. Say this was worked on and implemented.
So on a particlar day(s) the Raids are active, announcements in Merc Quarters or Contracts Menu So mercs know that Raids are on whatever set time, and teams open 20/30 min before deployments
It is a NEW gamemode, could have NEW rewards added... If this was unique the only way to play raids was to be invovled in corp/public teams Servers would fill easily, even with low playercounts.. 1 Raid open each hour, mercs would claw their way into it |

Even a squad or two isn't going to stand up to a PC team I'm afraid, it's a totally different kind of game in PC.
Even with new rewards, how do you prevent corps from just using alt corps to fill the enemy team to force a certain outcome, particularly since the time and date of the battle is known? It would be similar to District Locking, but worse because the Attack is NPC driven and thus there's no cost involved.

For this particlar mode, payouts could be closer to public so both sides earn.
Or
Certain drops for participating mercs
It obviously needs a Reward, to complain the people are paid for participating in pre-arranged community events Is even dumber than the flaws in my proposal, The game needs mercs like you Spectral keep up the good work. 07
I just want to see something fresh for the community, add more to gameplay Add more content for Public and PC mercs, even the butthurt Forum posters could join in |

You understand my concern though? 95%-100% of the time the attacking team has zero chance of winning, so you have 2 options.
1. Payouts are similar to pubs - People would be better off fighting a pub match where they have a chance to win, rather than get their face kicked in 95-100% of the time. 2. Payouts are high - Defending corp will simply fill the open NPC attack contract and farm the benefits.
Either way I just don't see it working. Like I said I applaud the general goal you have to get people more interested in PC, but I don't think NPC contracts like this are going to work.

Very good points, and exactly why I am posting this.. to try get ideas seen and balanced out You can't deny a game like this being some serious fun... So rather than rip it apart, help work out the finer details.
If facing a PC team is going to be so traumatic, maybe it could be set that Defenders are given less mercs in team, kicking their odds down for a stomp And having them setup for a tough defensive battle...

I hope you don't think Im trying to rip your idea apart, the idea of public attack contracts has crossed my mind in the past too but obvious issues made me drop the idea to work on other avenues. Regardless if you want to discuss it that's fine.
The issue I see with asymmetrical combat is that an enemy corp could queue sync for an easy battle, rather that fighting them on even ground in a legitimate PC setting.

again I agree, and appreciate the feedback But if the right mentality is built on this, good players would join in to Attack - And I'm interested to hear options to 'limit' the Defenders
- And win loss scenarios As this is a Raid, not a take over, the District could not be flipped. There is a lot to consider and making rewards/penalties viable wont be easy |

Yes, that is a big issue... I really hate that mentality If I had this feature available, and could sync friends into the enemy team We would be murdering each other or having Plasma Cannon Raids lol
But for every one that would make good use of it, two will abuse it ^ The joy CCP have to work out before making changes |

Raid team balancing
12 Defenders Vs 16-18 Attackers
Giving the Defending side an instant disadvantage. Not too sure on numbers but something like this could be possible, without being impossible |

Well if the District can't be flipped, then the defending team really has no reason to show up unless they're getting good rewards for it, in which case that just further encourages the behavior to fill the attacking team with alts in order to farm whatever the reward is. =/ You can see why I kinda let this line of thought go in the past heh.
I'm thinking perhaps it would be better to focus on lowering the barrier of entry into PC and making it more accessible and less daunting to newer, smaller corps.

I think there is value in getting more folks interested in PC, and providing more realistic training opportunities for smaller corps and coordinated groups to practice the communication and tactics needed to win a PC. That's why I incorporated it into this idea:
https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=184780&find=unread
With something like that, more folks would be prepared to fight in REAL PCs.
FPS = First Person Support. Kills win battles but it's kinda hard to kill if you're dead and out of ammo.

They would be absolutely crushed, it would be worse than caldari factional.
Maybe if you had a scheme where the attackers got money even if they lost that would be workable, this makes sense given it is billed as a raid. And if any money they gain comes out of the district's owners pocket that would be a bonus. But as PC is now (winner reaps all rewards) this would be a terrible stomp with zero reward that would just make people not want to get involved after the first few times.
Edit: I do like the idea though, just needs some reworking of how rewards work vs. current PC reward system. |
