Ask them if they provide an ISK incentive to squad with corpmates a logi. Alot of people like to be personal mercenaries, not some corporation owned stooge. If i wanted to belong to an military organization i would play a game like Battlefield. Here, I work for myself, and part of being autonomous is that, as an independent contractor, i reserve the right to charge for my services. LUGMOS wrote:Vektus Alvoraan wrote:I never really implied to DEMANDING payment. I simply stated (and I might've worded it out wrong) that I was wondering if it is okay to ask for a tip for going the extra mile for the team in securing a win.
Think of it like the barber fish. They join in on a flock of larger fish and provide services, such a cleaning their gills and removing bacteria from the fish's body, essentially maintaining them in top condition. The larger fish, in return, give them food, but only if the barber fish goes the extra mile, indicating to the larger fish that he deserves a tip for not doing a mediocre job. Except in the fish scenario, the bigger fish doesnt directly give it food (ISK), but instead indirectly feeds it by giving it what it gets from its job. The Barber Fish only eats the grime it cleans, AKA the WP from supporting. That's its pay, not a direct feeding. Except, this is a FIRST PERSON SHOOTER game, and Im not going to stand behind someone for 20 mins with a rep tool going just so that they have have a better shooter game where they die less. Atleast not for free. Its not fun, its not profitable. However, for a fee, thats a different story. Cause heres the thing. if im in game and I have absolutely nothing else to do, ok, Chiron logi comes out. But because im doing it on my own time, and reserve the right to pursue a more profitable less risky job at any moment I choose, you dont know when your logi will disappear. So your whole parasite analogy is wrong, as I dont rely on repping heavies for my survival. Its a choice, not an obligation. And if you want some dedication, you are going to pay for it instead of just counting on me to be a good guy and take losses for you. Im not a damn charity, this is supposed to be a profitable venture in the EVE universe. Profitable for me. Remember that.
You damn near brought a tear to my bleeding logi heart (and wallet). 10/10

Have been a logi from open beta and will ask the squad im in what they want, usually come in with Amar with uplinks, then switch to Mini for reps, of Gal for scans, all suits have pen and rep (usually double beam). If you are with a good squad/ team everyone makes out. Im able to run proto in Gal,Mini, andAmar if asked. Squad leads don't want to here someone asking about extra playment to do their part, so take it from an old logi and do your job and do what is needed to help your squad, that sould be payment enough.
Take it from me my friend, I have been a dedicated Logistics unit since closed beta, and I wouldn't suggest the things I've brought up on this thread for no good reason. Back in the day we logibros used to be payed well for a job well done in sticking our necks out for the good of the team. But unfortunately those days are long gone, and times are tough.

Man are these people entitled to their own self worth.
Last time I checked we were MERCS meaning we have fees for our frontline services.
My friend here is a terrific logi. One of the few TRUE logis remaning and those guys who skilled into a logi suit because they have a squad mate that likes to run Heavy and he saw profitable to be leech and get some WP off of him.
So it is perfectly normal for him to be asking for a small fee
Many of you guys are Eve players right? Don't players in Eve also fees for some of their services?

Are my risk vs. reward antics worth it? I don't know. Sometimes I can't help but feel like it doesn't.
So is it acceptable to charge a small fee for logistics/medic support for the team? I'm really on the fence about this.

Do not try and bend the K den. That's impossible. Instead... only try to realize the truth.

The game has changed so much and not for the better, I would think ISK would not be an issue for a veteran, let alone the fact that there is no purpose of this game.It is a FPS that has lost its soul, CCP has made sure of that, enjoy the game for what it has become, a casual shooter.I hope to be able to squadup with you or any other merc who could use an old Logi/heavy (skilled into Gal proto to help squad :) ). |

It is not uncommon practice to pay ringers to perform services in a PC, although this is done more often with pilots and tankers considering their large investment. But PC is a pretty special situation.
Charging (squadmates) in Pub matches is in the Mercenary spirit, but not in the Logi spirit. Accepting unsolicited gifts for extraordinary acts of selflessness may be an exception.
On two occasions, I have been offered payment to Logi heavies in pub matches, using my proto gear. In each case, they had some special suit or one-time objective they wanted to reach, they knew from experience that I would improve their game and survival, and they wanted me to use my proto suit instead of my usual advanced gear because they wanted every theoretical advantage. Since these were folks I knew and respected not to get me killed through an excess of recklessness, I declined payment and ran proto for the matches in question. My gift to respected frequent squadmates. Had I not known them, I would have declined. Had they wanted to make it a regular thing, I would have declined.
Also, on numerous occasions, I have been offered reimbursement from heavies who recognize, without my saying so, that they have done something really idiotic that has cost me a 70-90k suit. Again, I decline or return these payments. Self awareness that they cost me isk was reward enough, and their recognition that my suits are more expensive than theirs shows me they value my investment and are less likely to repeat the error. If they frequently repeat the error, I just don't squad with them or I tell them I'm just going to run cheap stuff.
Whining about the cost of one's suit to squadmates, and verbally blaming them for your death is boorish behavior. While establishing a pay rate in advance is not so boorish, I would think those interested in paying would be better served seeking out a dedicated Logi in their own corp, joining a corp that has good Logis, or cultivating a friend or two in the chat channels. There are many Logis who actually enjoy the craft and for whom it is not an intrinsic burden to "stand behind someone for 20 mins with a rep tool".
My 2 ISK
FPS = First Person Support. Kills win battles but it's kinda hard to kill if you're dead and out of ammo.

Make a cheap mk-1 suit, this is what I use...
Complex shield extenders x2 Complex reactive plates x2 Combat rifle basic flux grenade nanohive basic needle bdr2 rep tool
With enough practice you can go isk and kdr positive with a fit like this. Save your proto gear for when you are running with a team that will work well with you. |
