In the menu description of the "strongbox", the last sentence says something like, "crafty mercs will find that these boxes can be unlocked using other methods".
I think this is "preparation text", and that the devs plan for strongboxes to be more manupulative and functional in the future.
We'll see...

Use them to build a "great wall of strongboxes". They could maybe be used as speed bumps against tanks. They would obviously be krytonite of heavies since they can't jump over them |
