If you haven't done so before, please log onto the forums via the PS3 Web Browser and then attempt to make a post with a keyboard. When you do, you'll notice that the XMB keyboard disappears and you're able to make line spaces and other formatting features.
When it comes to sending mail in DUST, it can get pretty messy as unlike EVE where you can make messages like this:
Quote: Subject: This is a Message From: CCP Sea See Pea To: Spreadsheets in Space Player Date: 2014.12.13
Header
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Aenean commodo ligula eget dolor. Aenean massa.
Nullam dictum felis eu pede mollis pretium. Integer
Trying to make the same mail in DUST wouldn't look so well.

In enim justo, rhoncus ut, imperdiet a, venenatis vitae, justo. Nullam dictum felis eu pede mollis pretium. Integer As you can see, this is less than optimal. The large wall of text makes things very difficult to read, and is extremely cluttered while lacking structure & organization.
With that in mind, I believe that when you send a message to someone, a window should appear which gives you the same tools & utilities that would be available to you when making a forum post. It should also work as listed in my first paragraph in the sense that using a keyboard would cause the XMB Keyboard to disappear.
Another thing which I find lacking for a Mail interface, is the ability to make custom mailboxes. I think the ability to create a new one and have it appear as another tab to the left sounds reasonable.
