I've played with a lot of the "pros" on other games like Destiny, BF or CS:GO and they just plain suck. It was easy before because of the SP gaps of players, and you could just bulldoze through a squad with the most OP weapons in the game. Those same "pros" that still play all got caught up to by a lot of the old hardcore community they used to wreck. I know from personal experience. Btw, PSN: TerrifiedPotato if anyone wants to play some BF4 or GTA V, lemme know ^ This. I watched that video ydubbs posted in another thread, talking about the "greatest vets" on both sides. Watched the entire video....guys were good AT BEST, certainly not the greatest ever. OP fits galore, no strategy, no logistics, no teamwork, total **** show. Fiddle, you were running around in a min logi with MD and got pwnt terribly. Vets lost the sp advantage, subsequently plateaued, and left due to their lack of OP in reality (some got burnt out, and other reasons, I understand). Get over it, either you're good now or you never were. We're still here, ready for the challenge....certainly not to say in any way "well, we're the best because no one else is here anymore," honestly I wish those guys were still here so we could test this theory. They were good in their respective times. Simply a judgement call based on what I've seen for 18 months. Kalante, Arirana, Espeon, etc. still running around pulling 5.0's daily - no one can argue those guys don't have talent, STILL. TO. THIS. DAY. Go into a pub blunt, many that you thought were scrubs long ago have caught up to you.
You have to understand that those were the early days of pc. We were all still figuring out best strategies at the time. There was a time when everyone would just sprint to the city. People didn't call dropships or whatever system a corp chooses to use for initial spawn. Corps used to use snipers to guard homepoints and take players off of high ground. Who snipes in pcs anymore? ADS weren't used when they were implemented in the game, etc.
As the game changed and everyone gained more experience, everyone adapted. I'm absolutely certain that players in those videos would have adapted. There is no reason to believe that they wouldn't.

The SP advantage is gone, the go-to OP fit is gone, and the real pros are still posting awesome numbers but the SP-crutch users are all gone. The whole hardcore community is pretty much leveled at this point. There are some standouts, there are some better teams, but when it boils down to it, it's about experience more than anything. and tell reget to send me that PS3!!!
everyone that pc'ed had around the same amount of sp. There was no real advantage. Most of the players, if not all had proto weapons and gear. There were only a few standouts that may have mad much more than everyone else but everyone was on the same level, generally speaking.

Having a proto suit isn't the equalizer in DUST. One person can have a protosuit that has 350 base eHP versus another that has 450+ base ehp due to dropsuit upgrades. That's always been DUSTs niche, is passive skills that better the vet versus the rookie. I remember those days. Getting stomped by ERA because I just didn't have enough HP, or I would get blasted by a rail on the catwalks or bombarded by a python (Sir Snugglz is talented tho) or completely wrecked by a gal logi, stacking reps with triage hives and strafing around with a double-damage modded rail rifle or BCR. I caught up to those guys and now post better or similar numbers. It's because the SP gap closed, the game got balanced and I got more experienced. You believe there wasn't a huge skill gap and all the talented players just left, I believe there was one and more talented players have showed up but have yet to be recognized. But bahh, who am I kidding, half of you will be on PS4 with me in a year or two anyways <3
ERA? The video that I linked was way before ERA existed. That was the beginning of pc.....there was no real sp gap between players then. Most of the players that "pc'ed" at the time were around since the last wipe and before.

Shepherd Grey wrote:dubbs im not saying in that pc one or more of the guys versing each other had more sp than another. I'm saying, THOSE guys in that pc had 6.0+ k/d's on the leaderboards and 50k more kills than 90% of the playerbase. And everyone boasts them as being the elite. You're right, people in that match probably barely had a suit or vehicle, 1 or 2 roles at most, and fought well. My argument is, the guys you see that don't play anymore...the beta vets with insane k/d's w/l's....if they started at the exact time I did (uprising), would not have such numbers. I spent 6 months getting crushed by them, CRUSHED, but I had what? A dragonfly suit and 5 mil sp? Stood no chance.
I believe that, you bring those same teams back right now - give them however much time they need to unrust - and have pc's verse any of the top 10 weekly corps right now. It would shock you to believe the "no-namers" on the newer side that I'd place my bet on. When bf3 came out, the clan I formed absolutely demolished the game for about 3-4 months...I took a break, everyone caught up. We became mortal.
Just look at our corp k/d or w/l. Terrible comparatively to the elite corps of old. I remember our stats being below 1.0 for both, having our entire corp membership post-uprising players. I would bet every isk I have that we could match up to any one corp, not 16 elite ringer teams mind you....the actual corp itself. Hell OH has twice as good stats as us, we went 50/50 with them at their peak. FPS games are half talent, half knowledge of the game mechanics itself (maps/weaponry etc.). In the future, I see an FPS where professional matches are on unique maps no one has ever seen before - talent/teamwork will prevail.
Thing is....our last wipe was a week or so before the open beta, which was about a month before release? The sp gap from those that started when it released to closed vets couldn't have been that far off. It isn't like we had 20M sp when Uprising dropped. I would say that we had experience, which is probably more valuable than the sp gap.
You also have to recall how those Imps got those high KDs. The best killers used to group with ambush and they would never leave each other's side....never! I remember being on their side one game and the entire squad moved when protoman moved. They used to boast 20KDs on the ground.
Now, I'm not saying the guys today aren't talented (god knows with all of the mechanics like cloaking, ADS, logi wp spam, etc ther is opportunity for all to look good).....I'm just saying that sp wasn't the dominating factor for why they were successful.

But let's do this.....if you had to create a 16 of the best talent today that caught up in sp..who would they be? And put vthem vs a list of guys from old.
My list would be something like this (I won't put any Ahrendee guys like demz, Kono, etc cause it'll look biased)
1. Regnyum 2. Protoman 3. Reflex 4. Kalante 5. Calamity Jane 6. Annie Oakley
1. Exmaple (as a heavy) 2. Alldin Kan (as a heavy) 3. Osgr Valdez 4. FizzyCandy (what was his dust ID again) 5. Mark Burkhart 6. Tryhard 514
1. TheLegend 2. Kcon 3. Snugglez (I think he was around in closed beta) 4. Deranged Disaster.
That's a scary roster...and there are so many more. Is there 16 players that caught up in sp that could match this roster?

Fixed...thx.
And I'm not even sure if he likes me but I have to give credit where it's due. He probably gets my vote for best AR in dust

1, Xdestruction 2, Cavani1EE7 3, Senator Snipe 4. Jade tech. 5. Derrith. 6. Airiana 7. Yoshi 8. Solar 9. Espeon. 10. Devin Xer 11. Fusion Commander. 12. Viktor. 13. Chet Chews. 14. TTW. 15. Parthok. 16. Kalante still plays so he's on our team
Some of those players don't count....some of them were the ones that had the so-called sp advantage that guys were talking about. It's not a list of active vs inactive. But those who been around for this alleged sp advantage vs those who came late and caught in sp. Someone referred to them as "nonames."
But just for the record, I still believe my list would best this 16 ;)
