Commandos right now lack in purpose, lack in basically all, that is going to be explained with math.
1.- They lack in HP 2.- role 3.- movement 4.- CPU, PG 5.- BLIND 6.- BAD heritage from heavies
And all of that is easy to see. 1st let's see the HP.
It completely fails in hp because it has no cpu or pg to fit all you need correctly, im going to compare it with sentinels and assaults because it looks like it tends to be 1 of those...
1st example. Min assault vs Min commando Commando with 2 complex armor plates and 2 complex shield extenders has 1217 hp 18hp/s in shields and 2.5hp/s 5.64 m/s armor, terribly slow and has space enough to fit just 1 pro weapon. Of course you won't use it with that amount of HP but if we see the same stupid example with an assault. Assault with 3 complex shield extenders, 3 complex armor plates 1 complex ferro has 1245 25hp/s shield and 2hp/armor. 6.68 m/s
Here we have some important things to say. assault and commandos have almost the same amount of HP tanked, (of course good players don't do that but is just 1 example) commandos are really slow, and regeneration hp also commandos suck. also scans suck, by far, we can compare it with any other commando and assault is the same thing. assaults are way better than commandos, in other words. If one Command can do it 1 assault can do the same and way way better.
2.- Lets take now the role thing. you can say, commandos have 10%+ damage and also 25% bonus in reload speed. Assaults like the caldari is like a commando, but by far better, because you are faster, you can fit plenty of damage mods, and it has the same commando effect, (so if you ask me which is better i would say the cal assault) the same happends with galmando amarrando (lol) minmando and calmando. you can get the effect of damage pretty easy in 1 assault example 1. gal assault can use 3 complex damage mods with a good amout of armor, but gal mando can just fit 1 more damage mod. so once again, which of those i prefer... easy the assault is way faster and can fit even more hp.
point 5.- you can't say that commandos aren't blind...... point 6.- commandos have the look of 1 sentinel are slower like sentinels but they don't have hp as sentinels... lol once again so what's the idea of the commando right now. 2 main weapons, reload... Being seriously sentinels and assault have a specific role in the game "ergo" are better
So right now i want to talk about good bonuses or buffs that i talked with some friends, enemies and many others what they want for the commando. what wold be good for commandos to say that they are competent in the battlefield
1.- buff in EHP, so we don't have to fit many plates or shields. (drawback. it is going to be like another assault, personally i don't like this idea, but is on the board)
2.- add 2 more slots, buf cpu and pg (again assault buff ^ not bad but well ppl talked)
3.- Add to commandos a special bonus like command ships in eve. extra hp to your partners in sqd, lets say Minmatar +2% in shield -2% in shield recharge delays Amarr +3% armor +3% more stamina
^ those are just some examples that we comment
4.- another bonuses that can be really good and would make the command singularly as the master in weponry would be add the extra bonuses in their weapons like +4% range in sidearm and light weapons +2% max ammo +2% accuracy rate -2% cpu pg usage in lights and sidearms
so we can say yeah the commando is the master of weapons, of course if we follow this idea i believe it should keep the same hp pg cpu speed, but now it has a good difference between being an assault, sentinel and commando
all of this just as ideas to improve commandos. because it has no purpose, no role, and if you feel it is good as it is ok just ignore this post, if you want to comment another good ideas i'm gonna be checking this topic.
also CCP give me an answer about this idea.

Giving it similar EWAR to the Assault as well as the same slot layout as Sentinels (with appropriate buffs to PG/CPU) would be a good start.
That's the idea give them good bonuses that make the unique as any other specific role. Without falling into the same thing of assaults

An issues with this topic is that almost everyone is using assaults now, so in other words there's no really purpose for commandos to be right now, before assaults buff commandos were useful in my opinion because of its potential tank, right now is just another badworked suit.
And maybe yes.. They need a good buff in hp, and maybe more slots Or effects that make them useful.
