What we are, and are not:
The Learning Alliance is primarily geared toward new player training Corporations, but is also open to casual Corporations built on a sense of community rather than ambition. While we may occasionally occupy districts for training and holding public events, the Learning Alliance is not a Planetary Conquest Alliance, and will not be participating in empire building.
What we officer:
The point of joining the Learning Alliance would be to join its community. Members are encouraged to create squads and open those squads to Alliance in the Squad Finder so that any Alliance member can log in, open the Squad Finder, and join a squad. Immortal Guides already does this, and adding other Corporations to the Alliance will widen the pool of players in the community so that we can get more squads running. Mics are not required, but they are encouraged, particularly for squad leaders. (Members who continue to play usually buy a mic eventually in order to more fully take part.)
As one of the perks of Learning Alliance membership, your members will receive a Tip-of-the-Day Alliance mail. This is usually an excerpt from one of my Guides, or another guide with permission from the author, but may include patch notes and other useful information. The Tip-of-the-Day is geared toward the many DUST 514 players who never read the forums. It is a way to trickle feed information in-game to players who would not otherwise have access to it. (Delete All, and Mark All As Read options are available to players who are not interested.)
To Apply:
Send an In Game Mail to Renier Gaden or post in this thread if you are interested in joining the Learning Alliance, or simply want to learn more.
If you do not have an EVE Character in your Corporation to make the formal Alliance application on behalf of your Corp, I can provide this service using an EVE Alt. (Please read this Warning from CCP before you trust any EVE character with Control of your Corporation.)

We should talk in game. Perhaps something like this could be a viable option for the future of my corp. While I did say we are looking for pc, I think really all we are looking for is to be part of something bigger, beyond the endless grind of pub matches and factionals

You can always join the Learning Alliance while you build your Corp, and then move on to another Alliance when you become PC viable.
Maybe the Learning Alliance can help get small Corp's off the ground.

I was looking around for a Alliance, gearing towards a Caldari alliance. Do you know of such an alliance? I find it funny that I am looking for an alliance before any applications come in. Caldari FW is hard to recruit for.

He took his Corp out of my Alliance to join the Caldari Militia in EVE, as he does Caldari FW on his EVE character as well as in DUST. Unfortunately he got me to use one of my EVE alts to help his Corp join the Learning Alliance rather than using one of his own alts, and apparently my EVE Alt does not have good standing with Caldari. I guess he will have to put his EVE character in charge of his Corp and grind out some Caldari missions before he will be able to join the Caldari Militia.

It does cost me 2 million a month for each Corp in the Alliance, but that is payed EVE side, so I pay it out of my own pocket. I can't expect DUST Corps to be able to come up with EVE ISK.
As long as you have 5 or more active members who squad up in Alliance chat it is worth the cost to provide my Corp members with people to squad with.

Tonight we had 4 Alliance squads and 1 Public squad in the Squad Finder. Three of the Alliance squads where full 6/6.
We currently have 3 corporations in the Learning Alliance, and another Corp has expressed interest in joining the Alliance.

Damaged still has a few guys that play but is otherwise pretty much dead at the moment. Anyone who was proto and is active has merged into EB. I've tried to find someone who wants to take over damaged to learn how to run a corp but have been unsuccessful. Perhaps down the road I will work on the corp again, but for now it's last on my list.

I was recently asked to address the issue of Spawn Camping in the Alliance. This is the Alliance mail I sent out regarding Spawn Camping:
Quote:Spawn Camping is when instead of destroying a Drop Uplink or hacking a CRU, you wait in ambush to rack up easy kills as the apposing team spawns.
In the DUST 514 community Spawn Camping is considered to be in bad taste. Many veteran players will lose respect for you if you are found to be spawn camping. Veteran players may also have concerns about the effect your spawn camping activities might have on the reputation of your Corp or your Alliance.
It is understandable that many new players fall into spawn camping. The sudden discovery of an easy way to get kills can be quite enticing. Until you have experienced the frustration of Spawn Camping on the receiving end, or read discussions of the problem of Spawn Camping on the Forums, you might not think about the larger implications of what you are doing. Well, now you know.
Spawn Camping was even more of a problem in the early days of DUST, when your character would spawn in and stand their idle for a second or two before your screen even loaded, and then it would take another second to get your bearings and identify threats. When your spawn point was being camped you would be dead before you had even loaded in. This was very frustrating and demoralizing.
CCP has improved the situation somewhat by adding the Spawn Cloak. Now when you spawn in you are cloaked so you have time to fully load in, and if you donGÇÖt move to break the cloak, you will remain cloaked for long enough to do a quick look around before it wears off. (Turning does not break the cloak, moving does.) This gives you a fighting chance against Spawn Campers. However, as soon as you move you decloak, and if you donGÇÖt move you will still decloak after a second. If you have been scanned the chevron will appear above your head even before you decloak. So a Spawn Camper who is ready and waiting for you will still have a considerable advantage, which many consider to be bad sportsmanship.
This does not mean you need to avoid killing people near spawn points. It is often necessary to clear an area before destroying an Uplink or hacking a CRU, and that includes clearing anyone who spawns in while you are there. No one is going to complain much about that. It is when you are still killing people at the spawn point 3 or 4 minutes later, with no attempt to hack or destroy it, that you get labelled a Spawn Camper.
Sometimes you will strategically want to leave the enemy a spawn point (usually a CRU) so you can predict which direction they will attack from and can keep them contained. When using this strategy it is best to pull your defensive perimeter back away from the CRU so that you are not killing them as they spawn. Only kill them at the spawn point if you are moving in to take the spawn point.
